2 Korean students built a raft with over 100 unopened bags of chips, as a protest and an experiment to prove the chip bags have too much air in them

They should’ve just used a pack of Lays

Well, those chips are def getting crushed now.

This has been covered extensively. Sure it has shrinkflation connections,

But if you pack a bag of factory level chips to the top without breaking them, they settle a shit ton during shipping. Creating a big air pocket at the top.

Not to mention a sealed bag of air experiencing altitude related pressure changes.

I never understood the “too much air” problem that people have with chips.

Chips break easily. Air is obviously there to not let chips turn into crumbs during transportation. You also have weight written on the bag and you can feel the amount of chips inside too. What’s the actual problem? Why does it bother people so much to the point of obsession? It’s so weird.

Crisps don’t have air but a nitrogen mixture in their bags otherwise they’ll go stale

In 2014……

At least we don’t have to worry about ‘spontaneous’ raft building, right?

Chip bags have air in them protect the contents during shipping. Pay attention to the grams inside…that is indeed getting less…but the air is by design

You pay for the weight tho, not the ratio of chips to packaging.

Why are they protesting we put air in chip bags to prevent the chips from coming out all broken…

Should have chipped in for a pair of glasses instead so they are able to read the “per kilo” price.

Pun very much intended

The bags literally tell you the amount of product in them on the bag. They add that “air” to keep them fresh longer and as a secondary result keep them mostly whole instead of in small pieces.

The air is needed to protect the chips. Chips are sold by weight.

ITT every asshole saying “We can’t pack bags to the top it’ll break”…

We know, that’s not the problem.

The empty space is increasing and now goes far beyond what was ever needed for practical packaging purposes.

It is now, “Look at our giant bag!”

And they hope the person is too busy with screaming kids or in a rush to see the difference.

They are at best trying to fool some of us, it’s not just for packaging.

These sooks should get Pringles next time.

This is the dumbest thing I’ve seen today.

Just buy your chips by weight, not volume

Cultured people look at the price per 100g.

Protest succeeds and we all get to eat stale potato crumbs in a soft bag again like in the old days. Yay

The air is to keep the chips from getting crushed though, no?

I’d rather have a bag containing nitrogen than a bag full of chip dust and crumbs.

step 1. take air out of chips bags
step 2. enjoy your chip crumbs

Not to mention it’s nitrogen to help keep ya chips fresh.

If they had air in them, they would go stale. It’s nitrogen. It provides a cushion and keeps them crispy. And if nitrogen gets out of the bag, precisely nothing will happen. So why would you care how much of it is in the bag?

It’s not called air, it’s called “profit“.

Buy a bag of chips in Korea, they have like double strength plastic and unless you use the right opening spot its basically impossible to open them. So yeah I think a boat isn’t a bad use.

Is that why Lays smell like farts now

Well, it is true!!

Im a few years shy of a half century, and in all that time I have never once opened a bag of crisps(chips) that werent half empty. I get that there needs to be some air in the bag for transportation, but half empty bags???

You either have a bag full of air with intact chips, or a bag with no air & chip crumbs

Theyre packed in nitrogen to keep fresh
