I’m M (31), this if my first year where I didn’t had a first go to option and I’ve spent days reading, watching interviews and debates about the candidates. I’ve followed every survey and I have a graph merged with the evolution of more then 15 surveys in 2 months. Nothing, but absolutely nothing prepared me about this guy Georgescu. More then 90% of the country doesn’t know a shi*t about this dude. My circle of friends, nobody knows anything about him.
As a Romanian,
I never heard about this guy Calin Georgescu until recently and I am very shocked the amound of votes he got.
No survey showed him to be relevant at all, it took all of us as surprise.
We expected to fight between Marcel Ciolacu and George-Nicolae Simion or Elena-Valerica Lasconi.
But this is FAR WORSE and I fear for the future of my country at this point. We’re heading straight into dark ages with someone who’s into conspiracies, ezoterism, pseudoscience and natural treatments but not medicine.
As I understand this guy got popularity due to this brainrot tiktok as he was not promoved elsewhere and strangely this helped him. I don’t have tiktok and that’s why I never heard of him.
We’re doomed.
I came to the conclusion that western social media needs to disconnect from the rest of the world. So that means, no tiktok, no telegram etc.
It’s insane how easy it is to ruin free democratic systems by just pumping money into schizo fascist misinfo ADHD doomscroll TikTok/Instagram/Youtube shorts.
Someone needs to start flooding Russian and Chinese social media with the same shit.

The entire country is in shock. This guy, Calin Georgescu, is a nobody who’s only known for his nazi like rhetoric and pro Russia views. He had nearly no campaign, he had no signs around the country, no rallies, he didn’t go to any debates, he’s simply not known. Now he’s the most popular candidate.
Most people I know believe there was some Russian interference because it’s logically impossible for him to get so many votes. It’s a running joke now that people are Google-ing his name to see who he is.
Edit: experts and the people say Calin’s main presence was on TikTok where multiple bots were pushing his propaganda. But even so, most Romanians are not on TikTok, so it’s a delicate situation.
I am Romanian and I have no idea who this Georgescu guy even is. He doesn’t have a party backing him, was in no debates or interviews, had no internet presence until ~2 months ago, was very low in the polls until 2 weeks ago. This makes no sense whatsoever, all former extremist candidates started from the bottom, you at least knew who they were and he didn’t even win in the poor counties, he won all over the place.
He is allegedly, all over tiktok, but a viral meme on tiktok is not enough to get the most votes. This is like if Deez Nuts or Harambe was leading the US election
Wasn’t there like another thread like some hours ago claiming he was pissing himself because he was going to get 3rd place or am I confused?
Humanity is honestly too stupid for democracy.
I’m still wondering where tf this guy came from. Like I literally just saw his name on the list of candidates a few weeks ago. My dad even thought he was Geoana when his face appeared on screen.
Mind you, this guy was in the under 1% candidates section in the vast majority of polls. He believes science is unironically just Orthodox mysticism at work and constantly talks about escaping the “Matrix” in his Tiktoks. We’re unironically cooked with this one boys.
At least its hard to kick a country out of EU. Thats how little hope I have left.

Literally until one week ago no one knew who this man is. Now he’s winning. I still don’t know who he is , I never seen ads for him, he was never in debates. All I’ve seen were the bots on TikTok but I didn’t mind them too much . This should be a lesson for the whole world about the power and influence that some platforms have and I truly believe that promoting anything related to politics should be banned.
Awful times to witness
Guys, we don’t know what the hell happened, we were worried that Simion, an extremist, was going into the second round, but this guy, Georgescu, makes Simion look like a liberal, he came out of nowhere, he had 6% in the polls.
I don’t use tik tok and never heard of him, but at this point I’m hoping the corrupt prime minister wins, though I’m not at all sure that will happen.
Edit: he now has 23% of the vote, the second guy, Ciolacu, is a former communist known to rig elections, just 3000 votes after him, on third place, is a progresive liberal candidate, Lasconi. There should be a recount, Ciolacu for sure did not really make it to the second round.
Edit 2: Lasconi, the progressive liberal is second in the official results after the extremist Georgescu, there is hope. The former communists, who always win, suffered the greatest defeat in their history.
My fellow Serbians/Hungarians, any tips for the following 5 years? (it’s only the first round but this is scary and fishy af)

It’s a masive fraud, hope they catch up on how it was done. Most people didn’t even know how he looks like until yesterday. And now they say it’s all because of tiktok, like all the country is hooked on tiktok. From a nobody, no party, no campaingn, no tv appearance, he gets 22%? WTF.

So, Romanian here, the votes aren’t all counted.
We hold out hope that the exit-polls were right and the race will be between Ciolacu and Lasconi. I should describe how this happened so you get a little more context.
The social democrats (PSD) are well hated throughout the country. You can’t go one day without seeing and hearing “muie PSD” (fuck PSD). From graffiti to stickers everywhere. This is especially true in Bucharest.
Calin Georgescu was an unknown figure, a random guy participating in the race that nobody really knew. That’s how his remarks about Corneliu Zelea Codreanu and Ion Antonescu (leaders of the fascist parties of old, IE: Garda de fier and Leguinea Arhanghelului Mihail) went unnoticed. The only people that really knew who he was were the ones that saw his aggressive campaign on Tick Tock (which isn’t even the most popular short length vidoe platform here).
Reddit’s choice and my choice was Elena Lasconi. She really isn’t much, but she was definitely the lesser evil between the other two big candidates in polls: Ciolacu and Simion.
Simion is also Russia’s pet. His whole party (AUR) is. People were dreading a Ciolacu vs Simion, but now things seem to be pretty bad with Ciolacu vs Georgescu. It is especially jarring to see how, just a few hours ago, we were celebrating the exit-polls that all showed a Ciolacu vs Lasconi with Georgescu in third place by about 10%.
We are still holding out faith that the exit-polls were right. As of the time of writing this, about 77% of the votes were counted, leaving out most of Bucharest and diaspora. Bucharest, I hope, didn’t really care about Georgescu and we can only hope diaspora will save us like it did with Moldova.
Even if the best happens and we get a Lasconi vs Georgescu, he has more chances to win as he’d have the votes of 3 political parties on his side: AUR, PSD and SOS (whose candidate was taken off the ballots after a series of comments and praises of, you guessed, the fascist parties and Putin)
The second tour is on the 8th of December. Let’s hope that Romanians don’t have to vote “the red plague” (PSD) to avoid a fascist dictator.
