My ex was like this; only drank Hendrick’s gin because it was usually the most expensive gin the bar offered. She couldn’t taste any difference, only cared about the image. I’d go order drinks with either well gin or something slightly better (depending on the bar) and just *tell* her it was a Hendrick’s and soda and she never noticed.
It’s a big reason she’s my ex now, lol.

This situation doesn’t really make sense to me.
If you go on a date and your partner orders the most expensive whatever and expects you to pay for it it’s already over. There is no need to try to “save the situation” since you already know what this person is like and it is not something you want in your life so why even bother pleasing him/her by acting like this. The only reasonable thing to do would be to ask who is going to pay for and if they start questioning why you shouldn’t pay for it or outright say you, get out. The date stops there.

If someone did this on a date at minimum I’d immediately say separate checks. Assuming I’m such a simp I wouldn’t roll my eyes so hard I go legally blind and need to call an ambulance

I was on a first date once, the girl and I met to smoke a joint at a look out spot, and then went to in n out. When we got there she insisted on paying for the food but while we were waiting for our burgers she went to the bathroom and didn’t come back. I got the burgers and took them to my friends house. He was watching his Snapchat stories and showed me one of his friend who took a selfie with the girl and captioned “just saved the home girl from a bad date.” That one stung a bit.

First date. She stole a piece of broccoli out the air at hibachi so he couldn’t catch it in his mouth when the chef threw it. It’s his favorite vegetable. She’s allergic.
Somehow 14 years later he’s still with me.

If she wants it, then she should pay for it. Pay for what you eat or drink. It is sexist to assume that in straight dating, one gender must pay all costs of both.

Despite having a job one date insisted that she needed gas money so she could meet me. I offered to pick her up which she declined. Date was normal besides that. I gave her 20 bucks and didn’t ask for a second date

Shoulda let her order it, ordered yourself a double of Louis Xiii, then ghosted her with the bill after you finished it.

Why did he have to add the part about the tip. Having to go back (?) to tip, and then the waiter declining a tip because the bro code is just that powerful. We could have pretended the story was true otherwise.
If you look up the tweets, it gets worse, with this guy saying the waiter was “almost in tears” and then later saying he himself was “almost in tears.” We’re lucky the whole restaurant didn’t clap.

And then the worst thing a man does on a date is rape and murder you but we’re not allowed to talk about that
