I hate being this guy but white people will copy any phrases you start saying because that’s how linguistics work. This reminds of bit back where someone was talking about white kids in school using black slang and a redditor who studied linguistics said that’s actually completely natural for humans to do. If people start using slang and it enters wide spread use among a group EVENTUALLY other people belonging to other cultures within the nation will use it as well. If we were still segregated yeah this might not occur but the us isn’t legally segregated anymore and quickly becoming unsegregated socially. Human trends beat any social trends. 2 groups living in the same area will quickly see a fusion of culture.

Semi-related, but I was watching survivor last week. One of the castaways (Andy, a 20-something white dude) was talking to another (Kyle, a 30-something white dude). Andy goes on to tell Kyle about “one of his favorite phrases” he uses to describe himself (presenting it like some profound shit he came up with personally). Andy tells Kyle he’s “loyal to the soil”, which is obviously a tried and true black colloquialism. But it gets worse when Kyle (undrstandably very caucasian and unaware) asks what does it mean. Andy proceeds to say “it just means when i’m loyal to somebody, it goes through me all the way down to the soil.” To which Kyle responds “you know I really like that”…….i wanted to shoot myself.

NGL I’m still not convinced “in da clurb” isn’t exactly this already
We did this to my roommate who would always pick up the dumbest phrases.
We started using “two beans” around the house to describe something as cool, or high quality. “Wow, that coffee is so two beans”.
Within two weeks he was saying it to strangers.
darryl already did this to michael scott

then when they ask what it means ima say “iykyk” 😭 whole time ion even know wtf it means
