had to explain it to my cinephile-roomie as well: I tried four times to watch this movie, both in the original dub and my native language. I just couldn’t get into it. I never finished it, I couldn’t bring myself to care. perhaps this movie is too subtle for me and I just didn’t get what was going on, but that’s all I can say about it.

I sat through all of them and honestly I’m not sure what the hype is about. But I’m not really a movie person… I’m much more into interactive/environmental storytelling in games…
I tried for many years to watch the movie. I could never make it to the end. One day during Covid I forced myself to watch it and it payed off personally for me. Part 2 as well. I don’t think it’s the best film in existence but it’s worth watching and is one of the few films that imo did a sequel that was as good if not better than the first. Part 3?? Idk wth that was. I think maybe he waited too many years to tell that story. Without TGF there would be no Sopranos or any mafia movie/tv show.

I think this meme works better if you put citizen Kane or idk something like seven samurai. Godfather is surely a popular movie but I dont think it’s considered the best movie in existence by most casual watchers, let alone cinephiles.
It’s definitely considered a great movie though and most people would argue if u said it’s bad. But I think you’ll be ok if u don’t consider it the best ever.
When I hear a guy say The Godfather is the best movie ever made – I just picture a bro with a popped collar bragging about how he comes from an italian family, oh and he’s well off.
I have never seen Godfather or Citizen Kane. I know one day I should.
