Electric cars are 6-8% of new car sales. They currently have huge drawbacks over gas. (Argue all you want, but it’s way faster to pump gas than charge an EV.) EVs are not going to replace gas cars in 3 years.
Most 16 year olds get a cheap car for their first vehicle. That’s going to be a gas car.
Maaaaaaybe if the kids were like 1 this would be reasonable. But electric cars are a lot more than 3 years away from being ubiquitous. Your kids will probably even be borrowing your *current* car ffs.

I felt kind of the same way about gas powered cars when I was in high school fifty years ago. Gasoline is going to be around until there is no more gas or some one comes up with a cheaper, better alternative.

This is like saying “I don’t need to learn math or how to write because we have phones and computers”, “I don’t need to learn how to swim or ride a bike because we have busses and boats”, or “I don’t need to learn how to grow food, build a fire or cook because there’s restaurants and grocery stores”.
Just because a skill is old school doesn’t make it useless.
Sure, it’s useless most of the time, like learning how to use a rotary phone. But there’ll be a point in your life when you go to a very rural area that still uses any of these and it’ll be handy to know. Or an indie game that uses these as puzzles.
