Shit this has been me since at least high school. I used to be so easy. When I was a kid it was, get me a particular video game, Transformer, Bionicle, action figure etc. Now this year all I wanted was a pair of headphones. In my mind I feel like I am difficult, but really its because now I can just buy what I truly want myself.

I always ask for surprises, if anything. Surprises feel more personalized and meaningful than if I were to ask for something specific and then try to look surprised when I get that specific thing I ask for. I don’t like the gift aspect of holidays, but if it’s inevitable, I might as well make it meaningful.

Adulthood: Everything is either so trivially cheap that I already own it, or so prohibitively expensive that it would be rude to ask for it. Starting in October I stop buying things I want so I’ll have things to ask for.

My mother has to wring out something out of me because I keep declining and usually I don’t like surprises (I never have any use for gifts other end up giving).

I wish it were more appropriate to just say “money” and then I can decide later what I want.

I feel like alot of this is growing up and realizing the actual value of money.
