And I love how Oscar just rolls with it.

Darryl: I put 3 pallets on the truck to Blue Cross
Michael: Ok I’m going to ask you something and I want you to be honest. What is a pallet?

Michael says the most obvious and stupid things just to have an input in the conversation and avoid it being one-sided.

Sometimes I actually share this scene with people at work when I need them to “explain it to me like I’m five”. It’s a brilliant scene, honestly.

I always thought Michael was big and smart enough to clearly say that he didn’t understand Oscar’s accounting jargons. In the movie margin call, when the big boss shows up, he asks his staff to explain to
Him the problem like a 5 year old.

I was just thinking about Steve’s delivery of this earlier. Amazing.

Michael is probably thinking he is all smart following up with the conversation.

Steve Carrell in many scenes channels his inner child and that’s what makes the scenes magical and funny.

I love this scene but I also feel the writers could have used a tiny bit more restraint before completely flanderising the characters. There’s no way Michael has lived for 45 years, become the branch manager of a company and doesn’t understand basic things like this.
If the story was he got to this position because of nepotism, I can see it, but he didn’t.
