Yeah, I was totally expecting that plot twist too. But hey, at least we got the two Christmases situation which is so confusing yet so cool at the same time!
My parents got divorced when I was a kid. My husband’s parents got divorced when he was a kid. That’s four sets of grandparents for my kids, and we all live in the same city/surrounding area. My kids get all the benefits of extra Christmases and none of the emotional turmoil.
My family in the Philippines celebrates Christmas every day in the months that end in -ber.
They seem to be really happy with it.
I know it’s implying divorce but I immediately went to “they’re gonna tell her she has cancer”, technically giving her 2 more Christmases

I thought they were shivering in an empty house because two Christmases bankrupted them.
(“We have some news” is terrible text for this. That is not how you start that conversation with like a five year old or whatever.)
As a child of divorced parents, it’s not all bad. My parents have an amicable relationship and I spend Christmas with my father then the rest of the year with my mother.
