Its so weird how we used to be able to do that. My dad always tells me how he was able to pay for college and could live off of his job at pizza hut.
If no one should expect a living wage, then executives shouldn’t expect workers to drain their life into work. Don’t expect loyalty to work when I have to live pay-check to pay-check with not enough to grow.
Exactly this, if your business model is only viable if you have to underpay staff then your business model is garbage.
It’s so strange to read this when in northern Europe you can earn minimum LIVING wage plus benefits working fast food.
Its amazing how in American culture — no one deserves a wage they can live on but need to bow down to the “American Dream” — any sort of enjoyment is tantamount/equal to laziness. But this is our culture.
People love to shit on fast food and customer service jobs but still want to be able to buy stuff and get burgers after their 9-5. Those jobs need to exist the way our society is, people working them should be able to support themselves right?

Fuck that person. Fast food may be “unskilled” labor but that doesn’t mean it’s Easy. The stigma against fast food work needs to be fucking obliterated yesterday.

If fast food jobs are for teens, why are they open when school is in session?
If the whole point of a job is to support yourself but the job doesn’t pay enough to support you, then what’s the point?
If you cannot earn a living wage, ehat is the point of working at all. All that time and effort should be used for gaining skills people actually pay money for. Yet, we still need people in customer service and cleaning and other such jobs. Usually those jobs are exhausting enough, we don’t need to punish those people more with contempt and unlivable salaries just because they were unable to study for whatever reason. It’s not like we are lacking engineers or doctors because people preferred working in fast-food instead.
If workers aren’t paid a living wage by their employer, then their survival is subsidized by the taxpayer through food stamps
Basically this is _corporate welfare_ because the employer is getting richer and the taxpayer is subsiding the workers
Solution: Don’t get a job with them if they don’t.
New Problem: No one is giving a living wage.
So, there should be more homeless people without work?.. Cause there’s no point in working if you can’t afford even to rent a place to stay and some food. And there’s definitely no point in tolerating those jerks bosses who don’t think that you should earn enough even for your MINIMUM needs

Fast food is now as expensive as some higher end restaurants so why tf shouldn’t the restaurant workers expect a living wage?
It is about scarcity. There is an over abundance of people that can flip burgers to the supply far outpaces the demand driving the “value” and price of that labor.
You as the labor set your value by “upskilling” if you don’t want to upskill then you are allowing the market to dictate your value.
i.e. if you want to have a skill set that every single person in the world shares your value is going to be low due to that.
This is basic supply and demand. If something is really easy to get (finding burger flippers) then the price is going to be driven down due to over supply.
Your cost of living don’t set your worth the demand for your skillset does.
If you can’t make enough to live on you need a different job. The employer doesn’t owe you a wage you can live on. That’s on you. By accepting the low wage, you condone it. It’s you who is doing this.
This is so dumb. Fast food is entry level. Learn the importance of showing up on time, and taking direction. That’s the spring board to better opportunities.
Absolutely no one should think they can buy a house, pay for a car, insurance, groceries, internet, gas, phone, entertainment while flipping burgers. Anyone who does just proves they are too dumb to deserve the better opportunities and is right where they should be, on social media crying about a living wage for doing nothing.
Middle age people working jobs that were meant for teenagers. Literally a job that immigrants who don’t even speak English can do. Yet they wanna live next to a nurse, firefighter, accountant. Crazy, how delusional people are.
Not every job necessarily needs to be living wage, that’s impossible, but if you have employees at your fast food restaurant that basically run the place, are on call for you, do their best in spite of absentee franchise owners, and have been working there for multiple years? Yes, they deserve a living wage.
A high school job for a kid gaining experience at 10 hours a week? No, not a living wage. The nice man or lady that single handedly runs your McDonald’s during overnight shifts continuously for a decade and puts in 40+ hours a week? Yes, living wage. That’s the point.

I think wage is justified by the time spent and not the type of work. I mean if you work yourself into a zombie state at McD, you deserve a payment, that can can make you live a decent life.
