lol – when I went to a state university, tuition was ~$550/semester. My son’s 4 year degree at a state university cost us well over $200k.

Student debt is a direct result of deliberate and systematic defunding higher education funding for MANY decades – starting with Reagan.

And, like medical debt, it’s a uniquely American problem since the rest of the world has had universal healthcare and affordable higher education for many, many decades – even in far, far poorer countries.

Public service loan forgiveness is an insult to an elderly woman paying back private loans her children took? Or paying back government loans because her children chose not to take advantage of a government program? Who’s fault is this?

Anytime you hear someone share an opinion like this, you know they have no idea what theyre talking about. There’s only a handful of specific type of loan forgiveness programs, and the two main types (PSLF and the GI Bill) require you to give service to your community. PSLF requires 10 years in public service career and 120 payments and only forgives government loans, it doesn’t forgive private debt. Why didn’t the elderly waitress’ children take advantage of this program, why did they take private debt that couldn’t qualify under this program? Why would anyone want to de-incentivize keeping our public work force fully staffed with educated people?

What is even the point of society to these people? What is the point of civilization?

If you just want everything to be rugged individualism… what is the point of the human race? What is their vision of the year 4025? Everyone living to 300 years old with teleportation and space travel and still working until you’re 283 to pay for your 103 year old’s college?

Like what the fuck are we even alive for.

My loans are paid off and she doesn’t speak for me. Some of us want younger generations to have it better than we did.

Meanwhile Laura and people like her think future generations should never have it better and in fact should have it harder if it means they can be wealthier.

C’mon Laura, she knows her tuition hardly cost anything back in the day.. she ain’t no spring chicken. My aunt went to UCLA in the 60/70’s and tuition was $100 per semester for a full load of classes. Cut the bullshit, lady.
