50 years is a lot of time for any place to develop

In 1970, the city was named Saigon.

Trouncing the french, americans, chinese, and toppling the kamar rogue gave them a lot of clout and breathing room and damn did they make use of it

Actually, before 1976, the city was called Saigon before the communists changed its name.

Fun fact: Vietnam has the worldโ€™s largest cave, and itโ€™s so huge it has its own underground ecosystem with unique formations.

Imagine 2050

1970 city looks nicer to live in

It has just developed since 1986 (turned into market economy ) or 1991 (after ussr collapsed)

Literally every city on Earth has developed since the 1970s. This is like being amazed at how a grown up looks different from their childhood pic.

What I would be more interested in is if people are doing well or not.

You’ll see these superficial glitters in many 3rd world countries while its people are jobless, hungry and suffering. Just look at india.

You can say something similar about basically any country.

A city grows in 50 years? Congratulations

It’s impressive but it’s 55 years between those 2 pictures. I would expect a lot of changes over that amount of time.

Honestly, less of a developmental jump than I would have expected for 50 years of progress in Vietnam.

I would have expected the first pic to be a lot more rural looking. That first pic could just as easily be some coastal Mediterranean town today

Communism does weird things to communist countries /s

70s is how Greece looks today.

And kicked the ass of USA โค๏ธ

The city looked much better in the ’70s

Socialism works

Someone make a timela video. Even the picture looks astonishing.

more beton what a evolution

RIP gigantic public park in the background.

The traffic there is truly a nightmare

Many people in the US act like itโ€™s the standard for the developed world. Iโ€™m not sure where these people live but in my corner of the country, in 50 years we will still be worse off than Vietnam in the 70s

To me These pictures scream inequality now ,instead of prosperity

Did slums also improve this much?
