At the time, I remember thinking that it was absolutely over him at this point. He could not control himself despite all the extra chances he’d had. It is really hard to believe he is the guy we know today.
The good news is that it is very hard to be charged with :”Carrying a Concealed Weapon” when you are nude. In a Porsche or otherwise.
“And look! Robert Downey Jr is filming a shootout with the police!”
“I don’t see any cameras…”

Other than the arrest, it was a pretty good night.
People like to bag on him but I can’t imagine where I would be if my own father literally fed me drugs.
A lot of MFers around here taking for granted the fact that their parents generally gave a shit about their well being. Shrug.

His career did seem to be over to most observers, but it’s a testament to his character that he still had heaps of support from his friends. I think his big turning point was doing that Elton John video in 2001; it showed he was back and ready to make good, and he fulfilled that promise.
This ain’t even the half of it. Growing up in the 80s and seeing this guy succeed as iron man was like wtf? Not hating at all it was just crazy.
After he said, “I’m Batman”, they hauled him in.

If I remember correctly he told the judge at sentencing that, “it’s like I have a gun in my mouth and I like the taste of the metal”.
Happy to see a positive ending from anybody with serious substance abuse issues.

There isn’t a faster track to making your underlying trauma take front seat and drive than abusing cocaine. Fuck that shit. I BARELY cusped the edge of abuse and I saw what it was capable of and it scared the fuck out of me. It’s the only drug I’ve tried where I truly felt like it could take control and ruin my life really fast and thus it’s the first drug I learned to say no to, even blackout drunk. That is the only drug I’ve experienced where I can say it will change your personality entirely and lead you to turn into a huge fucking dickhead. Alcohol is the second one, but it’s a lot slower burn than cocaine and it usually takes years of abuse before you can see what rock bottom might even look like. Cocaine you can get there in one summer.
Glad he’s clean now, but this is honestly hilarious as an isolated incident. Ass naked driving a porsche with dope, blow, and a gun…dude was on a SICK one. As long as I got clean and didn’t hurt anyone, i might even consider this a bucket list moment if I were RDJ on my deathbed as an old man.
Truly the pinnacle of public celebrity downfall incidents…if you’re going to have your “moment of clarity” end up as national headlines, it’s gonna be hard to top this one.

The judge that sentenced him had given him breaks over and over and he thought that Robert Downey Jr was going to die. So he gave him a little harder of sentence

Major props for anyone who goes through addiction and gets sober. Addiction can happen to anyone. We are all humans. We all struggle. Pain is part of life. We all use something to cope, be it productive ( like exercise) or not(drugs,food,cigarettes, etc). Let’s help heal ourselves and eachother through kindness, compassion, and community. This world can be a lonely place. Let’s all huddle together. People are dying out here. Fentanyl can be a one and done and it’s everywhere. It ain’t 1965 anymore. Stopped being cool long ago. Now it’s sad. It’s very sad.There’s hope. Reach out. Be reachable.
