I can’t say I never have time or energy for my hobbies. But, I find that I won’t touch my hobbies unless I at minimum have 90 minutes for them. Anything else, why bother. Im going to get 1/2 way through painting a miniature and then have to stop? Nah. Im going to get a bag or two of a LEGO set made. Nah, I’ll wait. Id rather be sure I have sufficient time to complete something rather than do things in micro bursts. But, that also means that I rarely touch my hobbies because I get like 3 2-hour spans a week. Maybe? Which, that is probably a lot for some people.

Yes. I had a few burnouts. Last was half a year ago.
So this is one symptom.
After work you are so done that you just try to rest all evening. Every day.
Eventually I couldn’t go to work from the parking lot.
Just crying. So tired of all that shit.
Nowadays I must be very careful and act right away if I have any of those symptoms.
I will go down so fast if I get too tired.

Yes, it’s called burnout and it means you are in a bad place. If the feeling of burnout isn’t proportional to your time/energy (IE work isn’t THAT bad but you still feel this way) then it could also be a sign of depression.

Yes, but some things can help:
– Start, tell yourself you’ll only spend 5 minutes. That will easily turn into an enjoyable hour and you’ll feel better after. Starting is the biggest hurdle.
– Start with exercise, even if it’s low-key. That’ll build energy as foundation for doing hobbies.
– Put blocks on your social media apps and websites. All that doomscrolling could be hobbying.
– Find a hobby with someone else, motivate eachother.
– Find a hobby that’s easy to engage and put away. I like noodling on my guitar. Make it easy to start. My guitar hangs right next to the couch.
– Be bold: fuck work. It’s great that you care and are emotionally invested, but you work to live. Don’t let them live in your head outside work hours if it affects you’re wellbeing.
It’s a struggle, but sometimes this helps me break the cycle.

On point for me. I usually work 7, 8, or 10 day stretches with maybe 1 or 2 or 3 days off in-between each set. I’m simply exhausted all the time, and only engage in gaming as it’s very little effort. As for all the other hobbies I use to do, it’s simply too tiring!
Shame!

That‘s why I love that our company allows sabbaticals every year from half a month up to 3 months so you can whenever you feel burnt out take some real time off focus on hobbies or just in general re-charge. Couple of colleagues used it last year and not only from them telling us but also you can see/feel that they are refreshed and happier too.

I just got back to work after 2 years of workers compensation from an injury. I didn’t do anything constructive those 2 years besides watch movies/shows and play games. And even then, I didn’t play all the games I had expected I would. And granted, for many of those months my arm was in a sling, so I could only play turn based rpgs since I had only 1 free hand. But yea, it gets overwhelming I think and we just don’t do what we plan because we expect we have more time than we actually do.
Yup

I haven’t had time to build anything. 😕
