“B-But then we couldn’t sell your data for our own benefit”

Somehow this is considered a hot take, it seems.

Obligatory “bUt I hAvE nOtHiNg To HiDe”

Privacy policy on my new Creality Ender 3v3 Plus. Why does a 3D printer need my “Personal Internet-surfing records and log information (including website browsing history, software use records, click records)….

The data mining era. And its going to get worse.

Remember when if you liked an app/found it useful, was a 1 time payment, not a subscription?

Good times.

Just downloaded an SSH client today because it looked neat. It wanted me to make an account or to “Sign in with Google”.

I proceeded with deleting said piece of software.

Time to bring back the good old PDA, who is with me?

Dear Tidal, YouTube and Spotify.
I have decided to host my own local music server because I’m tired of your bullshit.
Sincerely, fuck you

And I want to own my games again damit

Especially the account part fuck that shite

Also I did NOT ask for everything to have AI in it.

I’m pretty tired of it too. Such a pain to try and keep track of everything.

Unfortunately most people will just blindly click through “yes” for everything

It’s pure annoyance right now

This is literally how I feel!

I went to a restaurant the other day and I had to make an account to eat food 🤦‍♂️

It’s insulting that they try to make you believe that somehow it’s all done for your benefit, like somehow this is going to improve your experience in any tangible way. It just seems like one more step of bullshit between you and whatever you want to accomplish.

It’s why I really despise the way Microsoft is trying to push copilot on everywhere – guess what they are using to train the LLM?

Then use alternatives. If you complain about it and still do all those things then you’re part of the problem.

Btw you posted this on your Reddit account and the author posted it on Bluesky.

FACT 🗣️🗣️

Can I safely recommend Linux now?

That’s why I am slowly replacing everything with foss self hosted stuff

They only want you to download the app so they can monitor your every action.

– posted from Reddit Mobile web 🙈

Home appliances definitely don’t need to be IoTs. Or even if there’s a business case for that you should be able to operate them when offline. We will get to a point where everything in our houses will become useless if offline, and that’s completely moronic.

For me, it depends.

I’m happy having an account if it means McDonalds can help me make my regular order to my regular location a bit quicker

But you can shove it up you sideways if you think I need to be part of an email list to change the equaliser on my headphones

Oh my,I agree 100%. Let me add; I do not want to look at any ads, so there is no need for cookies.

Then get rid of tic toc and red note if that’s what you actually mean

I downloaded the app Paprika 3 (it’s for cooking) and am now gushing over it. You pay $5 and you get the full app. There is no subscription. You can optionally make an account to sync your data between devices.

It’s like a piece of good 90’s software: Does what it’s supposed to do, leaves you alone with AI and notifications and subscription fees and all this shit. Just give me more of that.

Also, I’m not saying “maybe later”, or “not today”, I’m saying “no”.

I want regular intermittent wind shield wipers – the car does not possess “intuition”, stop that.

This is the worst one I’ve seen recently:

“To track shipment of your order, download this app.”

*cancels entire order instead*

I don’t even have the internet at home

I don’t have instagram, Facebook, tiktok or anything

I have no smart devices

I have an old TV that has no apps

I have music on an sd card on my phone, because I don’t have Spotify and never will while they pay Joe Rogan to be a cunt

No twitter, no nothing

I despise consumerism.

I don’t think I’m better than other people, but I think that my happiness is more secure, because it’s not measured by what other people have.

The algorithm isn’t there to make you happy, it’s there to make you feel like you’re missing out

and the worst part is that sometimes doesn’t seem to work. in my country, finding someone to talk to get my internet working was an absolute nightmare. i had to walk into one of their psychical stores to get it working.

I’m

I don’t want to pay you piecemeal for MORE money than it used to cost to buy. People who pay more than 60 bucks for a gacha mobile game what are you thinking?

I couldn’t agree more

I’ve been saying this since the PS3/360 era

If you’re on PC, I feel it’s very much in your power to dictate terms on how to get exactly the experience you want.

I don’t get ads, notifications or use many things that require accounts.Just gotta say no to some stuff and keep it moving.

speaking facts

Thankfully, dumb tech is still around. In the past 2-3 years, I’ve bought a couple of MP3 players, some Casio watches, and retro handhelds from Anbernic. All new, nothing secondhand.

Someone mentions Jensen under this post. Hey r/jensenhuang this includes you too. No one needs your fake frames except the same ones who ruined the industry with normalising broken games releases 70$. And they trying to ruin it again with you.

But you don’t really want dumb tech because it’s right there on the shelves and yet you still decided to buy the new fancy “smart” tech.

Pretty sure the actual problem with that list is you also want it free.

Data doesn’t come form nowhere XD we cant even comprehend what they know abt us. They know EVERYTHING

If they can’t make money, they aren’t motivated to make cool apps. Put yourself in their shoes. It’s just the way the world is. If you can think of a better way, let’s hear it.

1000% agree
