However, excessive and neglected drinking can have severe consequences on one’s health, relationships, and overall well-being. In this article, we will explore the neglected drinking habit and its impact on our lives.
What is Neglected Drinking?
Neglected drinking refers to excessive consumption of alcohol without noticing the negative effects it can have on one’s body. This habit can begin with occasional overindulgence, but over time, it can lead to dependence, addiction, and various health problems.
Physical Effects of Neglected Drinking
Neglected drinking can lead to a range of physical symptoms and health issues, including:
1. Liver Damage: Prolonged drinking can cause liver damage, which can lead to a range of complications, including liver failure, cirrhosis, and even cancer.
2. Heart Disease: Excessive drinking increases the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke.
3. Nutrient Deficiencies: Neglected drinking can lead to a lack of essential nutrients, including vitamins B and C, and important minerals like potassium and iron.
4. Weakened Immune System: Drinking can weaken the immune system, making it difficult for the body to fight off infections and diseases.
Mental and Emotional Consequences
Neglected drinking also has significant mental and emotional consequences, including:
1. Anxiety and Depression: Excessive drinking can trigger anxiety and depression, often accompanied by feelings of loneliness and isolation.
2. Relationship Problems: Neglected drinking can strain relationships, causing partners, friends, and family members to worry about the drinker’s well-being.
3. Loss of Control: With prolonged drinking, individuals can lose control over their behaviors, leading to reckless and impulsive decisions.
4. Memory Loss: Frequent drinking can lead to memory loss, making it difficult to recall important events, conversations, and life milestones.
Social and Work-Related Consequences
Neglected drinking can also have significant social and work-related consequences, including:
1. Job Loss: Prolonged drinking can lead to job loss, as employers may require their employees to take time off to recover from hangovers and substance abuse.
2. Financial Problems: Neglected drinking can lead to increased spending on alcohol, leaving individuals with limited financial resources for other essential expenses.
3. Social Isolation: Excessive drinking can lead to social isolation, making it difficult for individuals to maintain relationships and feel connected to others.
Recovery and Prevention
So, what can be done to recover from neglected drinking and prevent it from becoming a habit? Here are some steps to take:
1. Seek Professional Help: Consult with a doctor or a therapist to diagnose and treat any underlying substance abuse issues.
2. Join a Support Group: Connect with others who share similar struggles and experiences at support groups, such as AA or NA.
3. Practice Mindfulness and Self-Care: Take time to focus on overall well-being, including self-care, exercise, and relaxation techniques.
4. Set Boundaries: Set boundaries around drinking, avoiding situations that may trigger or enable excessive consumption.
5. Educate Yourself: Learn about the risks associated with neglected drinking and make informed choices about your habits.
Conclusion
Neglected drinking is a silent killer that can have devastating effects on one’s health, relationships, and overall well-being. By recognizing the signs and symptoms of this habit and taking steps towards recovery and prevention, we can break free from the cycle of addiction and promote a healthier, happier life. Any clever ideas about how to extract this glass cork that has glued itself stuck?

See if you can work the small blade on a wine key between the lip of the cork and bottle. Use a circular cutting motion, like cutting foil off of a wine bottle.
Success! Wish I could post a photo.
1️⃣. Wear a glove to hold the bottle and protect hand.
2️⃣. Ice on top of stopper for a few minutes. To be honest, I think this had no effect because the glass stopper is pretty thick.
3️⃣. Poured boiling water on a tea towel and wrapped it round the neck. Expansion, but this might also have made the sticky “glue/goo“ viscous.
4️⃣. Used a monkey wrench to twist the stopper and lo and behold that worked – but although it twisted it wouldn’t come out at all.
5️⃣. Put the bottle base-down in a sink half full of hot water to expand the air and create some pressure from below the stopper (not sure what this has done to the whiskey. Perhaps a bad idea)
6️⃣. Use the wrench again and the stopper was easily removed.
🍾Celebrate with a small glass, even though it’s not yet noon. 🥃
Wish I could reward all of you who supported with ideas or encouragement with a wee dram. Thank you. 🙏
