The OG is fucking awesome. Because it’s terrible. The new one is really fun, and that’s impressive because the cast almost exclusively makes it worse

I don’t know I don’t remember my most safe and generic (in a good way) kids platformer being about a Cyberpunk dystopian society with a business man ruler who wants to turn humanity into monkeys.

I for one have always loved this movie ever since I was a kid. I made my parents take me to see it in theaters. I had the Luigi action figure. I thought their jump boots were dope. No one agreed with me, my parents even thought it was dumb. Y’all need to stop smoking so much weed if you read into this movie this much.

The description makes that terrible movie sound way better than it actually was. It was indeed that bad.

I absolutely loved the first movie! It might have been bad at times but I’d still watch it any day of the week!

I loved watching Mario and big Bertha together in the 1993 movie. They made yoshi a little scary but cute at the same time.

Let me tell you, I watched the OG movie as a 6 year old, and watched it multiple times up until I was about 12. I refuse to watch it as an almost 40 year old now to not fuck the nostalgic memories up. But as far as I’m concerned it is a banger of a film 🤣🤣🤣🤣

And yet, nothing about the 1986 film.
Or is it verboten here because of the ending?

To be honest at this point the old life action movie, feels now like a satire on Super Mario. Kind of like space balls is to Star Wars, only that space balls always was awesome because it was always meant to be satire in the first place.

The original movie would probably have been fine if it wasn’t trying to be a Mario movie.

The old one is considered bad because of the franchise it’s associated with. If it were it’s own thing, it would probably be an okay movie. The new one is okay because it celebrates the series as a whole and represents it well. The only thing that drags it down from good to okay is the celebrity voice actor thing.

I always loved the original disasterpiece. If it was called something different, some random nod at the franchise, and then went on to draw some obvious but weird as fuck inspiration from it, I think it would have been better off. Cult classic.
