Jim was the longest resident at the shelter. He hid when we got him home. A year later:

So glad you took him in! He looks so healthy now, nice tattoo and clean beard! Though given his size I am surprised he hid so well.

Legitimately thought Jim was the human on first read

Gorgeous cat! Sad to think no one picked him for so long

Which one is Jim?

Environment is huge for these guys. We have had cats at the shelter who were aggressive or scared when they were in one of the rooms with other cats, but when allowed to live in an office, the dragon turns into a pussycat.

He looks happy now! How’s the cat?

Today is the “gotcha day” for our (now old man) orange 10 years ago. He just turned 14, it took 4 years before we could pet him and ~6-7 before he sat on our laps. He went from accepting only brief touches to napping happily on a lap, but it took a long time. It is SO worth it, seeing him happy and comfy with our family. Poor cats with difficult pasts can learn to trust and love if you just stick with them! We added a young very spunky dog a year ago, it took a bit but now orange boy is comfy and plays with him too. I love posts like this showing how far those animals can come if you just show them kindness, it brings a ray of sun to me in dark times.

That left paw: “Dude, pay attention! You’re gonna miss the best part!”

Its good to see that he is getting along so well with your cat….

Can’t believe an orange fluffy cat would be the longest resident. Seems like the type of cat everyone would want. At least I would… but I suppose people really prefer kittens.

Appreciate you giving that kitty a home.

That’s wonderful. Everyone is settled in.

Jim looks so chill

The cat looks very relaxed! Jim does too.

My cat showed up at my back door. He loves me, but for quite a while, he was terrified of other people. He even tried to climb the curtains when my parents came over.

Last week, my Dad went to check on him while I was on a business trip. My Dad got cuddles and gave belly rubs to my cat. I was so happy. He’s still not a social butterfly and likely never will be, but he has grown so much.

I’m so glad your cat has accepted him!

Kudos to you for getting that baby out of those cages where he’d been so long. I know dogs are entirely different than cats, but we recently did the same for a pupper who first spent 6 months in a shelter, then another year at “obedience training” in a local prison. When we brought her home, she seemed to know right away she’d been adopted and within a week was barking, zooming, and protecting the property like a highly trained rottweiler.

my first cat was a senior rescue, and she did the same thing. Took up residence in the cabinet under the sink in the kitchen for about 3 months, then one day randomly walked into my bedroom and curled up next to me.

I love stories like this! Thank you for making a safe home for such a deserving floof! ❤️

Did he ever find the orange braincell or is he just no thought vibing?

He really loves to spend time with his dad

Edit: Typo

Nice dude you’re a good soul

Congrats on taking the geezer. You have exceptional taste.

I love when animals sit like humans.

Thank you for giving him a loving home.

This is truly the most awesome photo!! Love it ❤️❤️❤️
