I totally agree. There is absolutely no need to have a car that big, especially when living in a city. The parking spaces and streets aren’t designed for them, they’re not environmentally friendly and I’ve heard they’re also less safe as you can’t see what’s in front of you as well as in a smaller car.

The BPM benefits are gone from the pick ups, as of this year. These stupid things will cost you around 15-30k more to buy than last year. So thats a step in the right direction

Many get these lately because many leftists cities instituted bans on deliveryvans. So plumbers and the like get these instead as these pickups are exempt.

Same issue happening here in Ireland, since COVID these US style pickups have become very popular and they’re causing a lot of problems regarding road safety.
The vehicles themselves are often too big for smaller roads and the driver height is so high they can rarely see a small child in front of them.
Getting hit by an average size car at even 30kmph can be fatal, getting hit by one of these trucks at the same speed will be a lot worse!

Due to some loopholes in the tax system it is actually beneficial to import these things. Or so Iโve heard from people in industries where it is popular. Itโs so wrong, they are so bad for the environment and way too big for the infrastructure in this country.

Netherlands should look a bit at the Japanese model.
Cities like Tokyo have no street parking, you need to prove you have a parking space before you can get a car.
We don’t have to go that hard, but we could do the same for people that insist on driving oversized vehicles in cities.

I honestly can’t believe people buy these outside of the US. Most of the people who own one don’t even use it for truck shit. I literally live on a farm in Arkansas in the US and somehow manage to get by with a hatchback and an estate car.

People trying to compensate by getting a giant truck. I thought I left that crap behind in the us. But nope. Itโs here now.
Tax the crap out of them. Research shows that the weight wears the roads quickly, they pollute like crazy, drive up insurance premiums for everyone because they cause more damage in accidents.

My family has a โlarge carโ for the Netherlands (BMW X5) after living in America for 19 years and coming back home. But there is no need for a pick up truck unless you work in construction and need to haul equipment. But even then utilities vans are more than sufficient.
Iโve noticed in general over the last 5 years more and more large SUVโs like Range Roverโs, BMW X5/X7, Mercedes GLS, and yes even a Cadillac Escalade are becoming popular among wealthier Dutch families. The American style of cars representing your wealth and lifestyle is taking full force here.

Those pickups qualify as a light commercial vehicle because of their cargo area size, just like those Caddy, Transit, Sprinter vans, and therefore is exempt from the (very expensive) BPM that normal passenger cars face.
From a policy standpoint, something is already being done: starting 2025, BPM on commercial vehicles (like this massive V8 pickup and other normal Caddy, Transit, Sprinter) are based on CO2 just like the passenger cars instead of net catalog price, which means an extra 20k+ euro of taxes are being placed on those.
Will that be enough deter people from purchasing them? I’m not too sure about that. But at least we have more tax collected to subsidize other green initiatives I guess….

So many sad people here in the comments. Why are you so mad about a vehicle? Because it’s unnecessary? Sports cars are unnecessary too yet I never see anyone complain about those. Because you can’t see people? That’s also a lie. You would definitely be able to see if someone was in front of the truck, no idea why people are so obsessed with that argument because when are people going to stand in front of a vehicle that is about to move. All you have to do is pay attention, just like with any other vehicle. You can’t just ban something because “I don’t like it”
