He was 95? Damn.

“A statement from the Santa Fe County Sheriff in New Mexico said: “We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail.
‘This is an active investigation – however, at this time we do not believe that foul play was a factor.’”

What a legend. As a dabbler in audio technology, I loved The Conversation.

RIP, sir.

This must have been carbon monoxide

All 3 of them died at once?
Gas leak?

He was great in *Unforgiven* especially the scene where he confronts English Bob (Richard Harris)

Weird sub to post this on

I am not saying this isn’t an absolutely heartbreaking, pointless tragedy

What I AM saying is that going in your sleep at 95 with your spouse and dog seems like good work if you can get it

To those theorizing carbon monoxide, I’m wondering how that can happen in an 8000sq.ft. mansion with CO and smoke detectors everywhere, on top of what I can assume is a huge HVAC network with the proper make up capacity.

Edit: not saying it can’t happen, just genuinely curious cause those mansions tend to have everything up to code.

RIP, Royal, you son of a bitch.

He was great in The Birdcage. His character is a completely shallow and self-interested asshole, but Hackman played him with comedic charm such that you laughing at him instead of just outright hating him

It wasn’t exactly a small home.

Goodbye, Gene. You were a great actor who gave us many fine performances. You’ll be missed.

Gene Hackman was 95???

Sounds like carbon monoxide

Interesting as fuck? Really?

That’s so weird.. There was a trivia question about him last night at the bar I go to.

So shocking! He’s a Hollywood staple and was one of those actors that felt like he’s always been around and always would be around. What a tragic ending for he and his wife and dog. Their poor family!

Probably carbon monoxide. I bet the water heater/venting was in bad shape. Rest in peace guys.

That’s fucked! Dude has been nothing but genuine and professional all throughout his career, was enjoying a nice quiet retirement, and he goes out like this. Along with his wife and dog? What a tragedy.

Will always consider it a loss that he didn’t play a giant villain in Wolverine called “Huge Hackman”

Carbon monoxide?

Died tragically rescuing his family from the wreckage of a destroyed sinking battleship

RIP Royal

That’s so sad but it’s a peaceful way to go even if it is a senseless one too.

Side note though, that’s two so far. Who’s gonna be the third?

NOT THE DOG!!!!

Murder suicide? Carbon monoxide?

Why is it never turmp?!?!

Sad… I’ll wait to hear more details.

Sounds like carbon monoxide poisoning or murder suicide, but since they’re not talking about foul play then its probably CO accident.

He hadn’t had a movie in 20 years – I didn’t realize he had retired so completely. Guess he was enjoying his golden years, good for him.

A favourite scene from a great movie! RIP Gene

rip coach Jimmy McGinty, you were a great coach, mentor, but most of all, a great human.

You will be missed. Best Lex Luthor ever.

“Goddammit! All winter long I got to listen to him gripe about his bowling scores. Now I’m gonna bust your ass for those three bags and I’m gonna nail you for picking your feet in Poughkeepsie.”

The dog too! Must have been carbon monoxide,

Pretty sad. But at 95, I could think of worse ways to go than falling asleep and never waking up.

He just had his bday a couple of weeks ago. WOW

He looked a lot like my grandfather.

This is interesting as fuck? How disrespectful.

Love how his wife and dog get equal billing here. She had a name.

Probably carbon monoxide poisoning if the wife and dog are dead too and foul play wasn’t suspected

My first guess would be carbon monoxide poisoning

Reminder to check your CO detecters, and if you dont have any, get some.

We had a leaky waterheater almost kill us last year and I never woukda guessed a water heater could put out thatcmuch CO. Good thing we had detectors.

Wow.
That’s not something you hear in ‘Hollywood’. That’s like- family vacation in Mexico in motel.

And now he’s gone, for real. Damn. Sad for the family(including dog).

Dang, he was one of my favourite actors
