You just described a system of progressive taxation
Most of those rich people don’t receive a salary, not like we do anyway, so it would be free for them😅
Well technically that should be taxes but the rich weazel out of paying those.
Finland does that with speeding tickets. It has resulted in some bizarre cases, for example the businessman hit with a [€121k fine](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jun/06/finnish-businessman-hit-with-121000-speeding-fine).
We have a similar thing in Sweden, with certain fines being determined by one’s daily wage multiplied by a number of days decided by the judge in court. The problem is that sometimes those who get such a punishment do not have a legal/official income, which results in their daily fine being the minimum ammount, despite their illegal/inofficial income being higher.
Isn’t that just communism with more steps? Like if you had to pay more based on your salary then everyone would basically make the same amount of money even if it literally isn’t the same.
Many of the rich would use that to an advantage, and get paid 20,000 to drink the coffee. A good accountant goes a long way.

Most businesses would do this if they could. They’d make more profit if they could set prices separately for each customer depending on their income. Wikipedia on [Price Discrimination](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_discrimination):

This is the dream for Amazon. Pricing that knows how much we are willing to pay. Knows how much we earn, where we live and how valuable we think the things is. Amazon makes bank with the same overheads. Distopian.
Price of a coffee is derived from cost of ingredients, and fractions of barista salary, maintenance costs, electricity etc. + profit margin.
Secondly there is economy of scale – selling 1 coffee per minute is better than selling 1 coffee per hour because you pay barista per hour regardless of how many coffees are made (you divide the same salary be 1 or 60)
This means that there is a minimum amount of income that needs to come from coffee to offset salaries and maintenance, and each cup of coffee has its own minimum to offset the cost of ingredients.
Now we use progressive pricing: rich stop buying expensive coffee because it is expensive, reducing the amount of coffee sold, this will drive up the average price per coffee, so at the end you will get slightly above average priced coffee with audience exclusivity people with low pay, and it will continue to spiral to the bottom
This could work ONLY if it is universal across all stores, and flat pricing is FORBIDDEN.

I wish when someone died all their money was automatically distributed evenly over the whole country. Like a piñata!
If it worked flawlessly it would be pointless/perfect. Any amount of money you earn, everything costs you the same as anyone else. You can earn 10k a year or 100k a year and you’d effectively pay the same as each other cause it’s proportional.
Taxes work like that and see how much tax billionaires pay

The Scandinavians do traffic violation fines in just this manor.
Imagine being a multi-millionaire, getting done for speeding, then getting a fine for say $300,000 lol

Going to be the opposite soon whenever the IRS and paying taxes is eliminated but we all pay a flat tax on every item we buy instead.
Why would they sell coffee to you then if it’s only $2? They’ll probably put up a sign that says “only for people with this high salary” to earn more profits.

Finland has traffic ticket fines based on your income. The more you make the more your paying.
Why would anyone wealthy go to a store that makes their purchases that much more expensive? And how could a store stay in business when they’re giving discounts to every poor person who comes through their door?
Um you wouldn’t understand how unfair that is because Kim is like the hardest working person in the world, ok? Like she gets up at 7am *some days* and *stays awake* for up to 8 whole entire hours while people around her do her makeup, dress her and take photos of her while her nannies and personal chefs raise her kids. Like, you don’t even get how hard that is for a single mum.
It might seems like a good idea but actually it will just mean rich people will stay in their own economical niche.
