If you are tired after a vacation, try my recipe for a successful vacation.
I cruise a lot. There are times that me and my wife’s cruise vacation is something like this:
Get there:
eat, watch a show, sleep
Wake up, breakfast, nap, lunch, nap, dinner, show, sleep.
Repeat for 5 more days
Sometimes we sneak other short activities in between these very important itinerary items.
No thinking about food, cleaning, no internet. Its dark, quite, and air conditioned. Couldn’t be better.

A staycation is relaxing. Turn off the phone when you go to bed so no one will wake you up so you can sleep as long as you want. Do the bare minimum of housework, basically just pick up after yourself so it doesn’t pile up. Don’t do any “projects” unless it’s something you enjoy doing. So fixing that fence can damn well wait. Read a book. Watch a mindless movie without a morale lesson. Binge watch a tv show you’ve been meaning to get around to. Don’t run errands for anyone. Eat out a lot so you don’t have to cook or do dishes.
Be a lazy, useless bastard for a week or two.

As somebody who struggled to find work for 4 years after leaving university, those 4 years were honestly the best 4 years of my life.
Since I got my current job, I’ve been able to save a deposit for a house and now I have a mortgage and everything like a proper adult, but I often wonder if selling the majority of my waking hours for it is actually worth it. I miss feeling like I actually own my time.
Yeah, if I dare to do something ridiculous, like getting sick for a week, I’m behind the 8 ball for about 2 weeks when I get back.

While I do absolutely agree, I will add that I originally read “vaccination” rather than “vacation” and thought this was the weirdest anti-vax post I’ve seen in a while!

This is why people come back to work “reinvigorated” . Vacation reminds you of life the way it should be and maybe could be if you grind a little bit harder.

You might set aside part of your vacation fund to hire someone to do chores for you while you are gone. Hear me out. What if you came home to a clean house, laundry done, and your cars were washed and oil changed, how would you feel? Someone could meal prep for you, etc. OR do things to ease the transition, meal prep for when you get home, do laundry on vacation (or have it done, it is a vacation). Etc

My recently-retired step-dad mentioned something along the lines of this last time the family took a trip. He said how the trip we went on was the most relaxing trip he’s ever had because he wasn’t constantly dreading going back to work right after. He could’ve taken a few more days, and it wouldn’t have mattered to anyone but himself and his wallet.

Becoming financially free lets you have the feeling of freedom every single day. Look into avenues to get out of the 9-5 and that will make life better.
