From a European perspective this is a very unusual film – centred around a love of food, it details Mdm Tampopo, a widow, setting up a soup bar, and her search for the perfect noodle soup. There are so many sub plots and vignettes, one involving a couple and the erotic use of food, there’s an amazing sequence when her son is hungry and a street guy cooks the most amazing omlette in a wok… It’s hard to describe, so just watch it, it’s a wonderful film.

A brilliant film that I must have enjoyed a dozen times.

Had it on VHS for many years and am now delighted to watch an HD version.
