A cremation funeral held for a tiger in 2022. The tiger was known by locals as “Collarwali” due to being fitted with a radio collar to help researchers further study her. She had given birth to 29 cubs throughout her life in 8 litters. She lived in the Pench Tiger Reserve and died at the age of 16.

RIP queen.

She lived a full life and contributed to furthering her species in more ways than one. A true queen in every sense of the word. May her offspring keep her strong genes going.

What a beautiful animal

She had 29 cubs in her long life. With an estimate of fewer than 4,000 tigers left in existence in the wild, her contribution to her species is more valuable than gold. I’m so glad she was honored, even though she was unaware of it all.

What a respectful funeral

Love the respect 🧡

This is really beautiful in a way I can’t describe. She was a living, breathing creature with thoughts and feelings and they gave her the respect and dignity in death that she deserves.

QUEEN 💛💛💛💛🧡

I lived in India and had a puppy that died from being hit by a car. My neighbors who I barely knew honored him just like this tiger, even though they didn’t like dogs themselves, and I will be eternally grateful for that.

I feel sorry to you Collarwali, you may now rest in peace 😥🙏

A beautiful funeral for such a beautiful beast.

Yay 29 cubs. Curious how many are still alive, hopefully all of them.

This reminds me of a painting I came across in college. Has stuck with me all these years: [Jean-Léon Gerôme’s The Grief of the Pasha, 1882]comment image).

Her great head laying still among the flowers, the fierce lines of her face arranged in the final peace, her funeral shroud lovingly embracing the powerful body that brought life into the world, she who once burned bright in the forests of the night

Rest in peace

Om Shanti 🙏

My heart.

My cat died on Dec 26. I buried him under our juniper tree surrounded with cayenne (to help keep predators from digging him up), osmanthus, motherwort and rose petals. I wrapped him in his favorite pink blanket. He looked like a miniature version of this. So colorful. So regal.

May they both bask in the sunshine forevermore.

29 cubs!! Good work Mom! You brought not only life into this world but information that will help scientists in their understanding of these beautiful creatures. Your blood will carry on through your children. 🐅❤️

Tyger Tyger, burning bright, In the forests of the night

Collar wali

What does wali mean? Is it different from chai wala

RIP M’lady, I wish the comment section won’t get polluted with not so subtle racism.

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😿

Her legacy will live on through her numerous cubs.

Hail Collarwali!

love that Pic… shes such a Beauty

What a remarkable legacy she leaves behind. Each cub is a testament to her strength and resilience. It’s uplifting to see her honored with such dignity, reminding us of the deep bond between humans and wildlife. May her spirit inspire future generations to protect these majestic creatures.

Tigers always look majestic. Even in death. RIP queen

This is actually quite a beautiful idea. RIP.

Such beautiful animals.

Respect

These people and I have something in common in that we view ourselves as steward of a sacred world, not master of it.

The true gift of our sentience is that we can appreciate the splendor before us. Maybe it is our test to see if we can recognize that gift and appreciate it.

All of the world that we find ourselves in a position of power to dominate and destroy and subjugate should be revered and protected.

Om shanti 🙏🏿

Peace and good hunting in the other life. We’ll need you again.

Cool tiger but does the name not just translate to “the one with the collar’. It sounds less dramatic but this is the best translation I could do.

I know there are lot of things that people shit on India, but there are also beautiful things like this.
