Its just a tweet. Some letters on the internet. Its the same as reading letters on a bathroom-stall.
The chance of it being true is….extremely small. If it is through, its quite weird to brag about it on the internet.
Maybe im an old cynical bastard, but a fucking tweet doesnt make me smile. A good bathroom-stall-joke on the other hand. That makes me smile!

I once had a landlord who offered single parents lower rates on multiple bedroom units. We lived in a college town where most places rented by the room, because mostly they rented to students. It was a godsend, and at one point there was a row of single moms with similarly aged kids and we all kind of helped each other out. It was a beautiful moment in time.

Landlord here, we actually have done this and the reason is it lowers our income for the year. We try to break even on earned income vs expenses so we don’t owe taxes.

The first time I saw this was coincidentally right when my husband and I received a month free of rent, but they never told us why they did it. Just returned our rent payment each time we tried to pay.

Damn, she must not have a mortgage or have minimal expenses on the property to be able to do this. The first like decade + of landlording, there is minimal profit and tons of unseen expenses that the tenant isn’t aware of.

Some people are goofy. You want more people to do nice things like this, but when they do, you don’t like it and say they’re lying? Or call this “landlord propaganda”?
“If they could afford this, why not just lower the rent?”
Almost a good question, except it really isnt. If you could give money to one homeless person, why not give money to all homeless people?

There renters unions in Europe to make sure landlords behave this way.
My husband has a condo he rents out from before we met. He hasn’t raised rent on his tenants since 2019 because they are just good responsible people. Pretty sure the average rent for the place is at least 1500$ more than they pay now. But we don’t care because we aren’t trying to live off of them.

Not all landlords are bad or greedy
I have a lodger who’s joining the navy and has to undergo 10 weeks of training, so the room he rents will be unused for 10 weeks, so I said to him every week he’s away, I’ll refund £25 a week off the rent he pays, for each full week he’s away.
Doesn’t seem fair or right to charge full rent when he’s not here.

I’ve been paying on time for nearly 10 years, almost 225,000$ in rent, the unit is always spotless, and I’ve maintained it quite well.
If I were to leave with 50$ worth of repairs to be done, the property owner would try and charge me for it.

Generosity is great, but as a real estate broker, I’ve seen cases where breaking the lease terms like this can cause unintended issues. If you choose to do something like this, it’s best to document it properly to avoid any misunderstandings down the road.

„My contractual partner has kept her contractual obligations. This deserves a reward.“
It‘s a nice thing to do, but I disagree with the part arguing she „deserves“ that.
No. For meeting her end of the contract, she deserves to get what the contract states – which is getting to live in the apartment. That‘s how contracts and deserving something works.
