Yeah he went full psycho but as someone with a neighbor’s dog that barks 24/7, please shut that shit down for the love of god.
ITT – asked over and over again with no reply from OP – **Is the dog allowed out to bark at 4 AM?** That would drive me batshit crazy. If it’s every night, it’s like a form of sleep deprivation torture. The neighbor went too far in the note, but if he’s tried to address this issue with your father on several occasions with no change, I’d be getting touchy, too.
Call the police and train your dog.
While definitely this is a massive overreaction and threat… why is the dog barking like crazy at 4am?
Yeah you have to do something based on that last line. I know I would be fucking enraged if someone let their dog bark like a psycho at 4 am over and over.
it seems like theyre letting their anger out in a very unproductive and threatening way, and unlikely this is a real threat considering how petty it is- but best to take it to the police in case something actually happens, as it is a violent threat
1: Get your dad to sort his fucking dog out. Nobody wants to listen to a dog going on with itself at 4am, interview or otherwise.
2: How tf was anyone supposed to know any of that? Your dad’s definitely in the wrong for allowing the dog to howl at all hours, but this guy is clearly a nutcase.
Why is your dads dog whining and howling all night? Is the dog OK? You should also call the police, even if it’s just an empty threat a visit from the police might humbe him.

Yikes, this is a man who met up with his the last straw. This is a broken man. If you feel unsafe I’d involve the police.
However what I think needs to happen is to reach out and humbly apologize for your dog keeping him up and that you will do better to not disturb anyones sleep that early.
I’m probably going to get down voted, and yes—while no one ever should be threatened, I think this man is desperate and needs kindness. Extend the olive branch.
Look at what he is going through and extend empathy for not getting any sleep during a very stressful time…

Was your dog barking at 4 in the morning? I mean, yes this was a bit much, but I feel his anger.

So your dad needs to stop letting his dog bark at antisocial hours. If his dog is going out to bark at 4am, I’d be pissed too. And I have a dog. If she’s pissing at 4am, I’m right next to her, even in a blizzard, to make sure she’s on task and not distracted.
But your neighbour threatened him in that last line which is unacceptable. Those are inside thoughts when someone’s letting their dog bark in the wee hours. It’s up to you if you call the police, but they’ll likely log it and do nothing, so go ahead and report it if you think it’ll escalate.
Id suggest you ask dad to apologize, and stop leaving fido out in the cold middle of the night.

Or he can cruelly continue to leave fido out freezing or wet or lonely. Continue to agonize this unhinged dude who will likely be hanging from your porch header if he doesn’t get some relief.
You can call the police and they can charge him for vague and highly subjective threats to nobody particularly but the law can find a felony on Christ and bad neighbors would probably shoot him for walking up their drive asking if he could borrow a flathead screwdriver to pop his hubs and fix his flat.
Why doesn’t your dad take the dog pee, wait and bring him back in? 4am is too early for an outside barking dog when you have neighbors.
I agree with others that maybe get the police involved just to have it on the record BUT ALSO stop letting your dog bark at 4 in the morning. Just bc others don’t say anything doesn’t mean they don’t care. It’s 4 in the morning! It’s still dark out and people are sleeping
Your neighbour could be suffering from sleep deprivation because of the dog and has lost the plot. I would probably contact the police and adult social services but if the dog is making a noise all night he needs to step with a plan on how to fix the problems with the dog.
Maybe stop your dog from barking at 4:00 AM cuz you leave him outside and see if that helps.
Do your part to de-escalate before you play victim.
This guy sucks, but ffs, take your dog outside to pee and then train/housetrain it so it’s not freaking out in the middle of the night. Shitty pet owners suck too.
Lack of sleep can make a person crazy. Keep your dog in until normal hours. I have a neighbor who let her dog bark all hours, cops told her to keep her dog in. Call the police, but be ready to be told you’re in the wrong as well.

Advise him to get cameras at the very least. They’re affordable and easy to install for the most part.
Everyone’s talking about the clearly psycho neighbor, but not enough talk about why the dog is that disruptive. How can the neighbor not sleep, but the owner can? Is the dog mistreated?
People who don’t get sleep, especially because of a rude neighbor, tend to be dramatic and mean and tired! Ask a mom. BUT, that letter is over the top.
Put it in context. Have you ever been woken up constantly by a barking dog at 4am? It sounds like the guy is at wits end. I was in full agreement with him until the last line.
Definitely call the police. We had an unhinged neighbour throwing poisons over the fence (of all three surrounding properties to her fence line) because she didn’t like animals. She eventually got arrested for other crazy shit

The last line is concerning but nobody should leave their dog outside at 4 am, or any time, if it is going to bark constantly.
Like yeah the message isn’t exactly great and probably worth worrying about… But sort out the dog, no dog should be behaving like that, train it, entertain it, let it pee, whatever it might be, that’s not a happy dog and you should do something about it.
Certainly worth logging it, the neighbour sounds short of a bob or two.
Do you know how fucking annoying that is it could drive anyone into a less stable state of mind, he’s trying to get his life together and is constantly being terrorized by one of the most disruptive sounds to mankind.

I’ll tell you now, no matter how bad these WORDS are, the no law was broken here. Worst case scenario is they ticket YOU for keeping your neighbors up at 4am.
Obviously this dude is at the end of his rope and YOU are making it worse.
There was no “death threat”….control your dog.
But by all means, call the cops. That’ll make things MUCH better.
