Again, Trump being serious is an obvious problem. But him using this rhetoric as a negotiation tactic is just as dangerous. It is legitimizing a fringe idea that Canada is up for grabs to Americans. North America, as we know it has changed. It’s never been more important to know what it means to be a Canadian since the 17th century.
How long will it take to join the Canadian military as a reserve member? I read it takes awhile to get clearance? Any Canadian military members here that can answer? I’m considering applying to be a reserve nurse or medical support.
I have shared this with a number of people and they still deny it. I am convinced that they’d need Trump to show up and annex us in-person for them to even contemplate that it’s a real possibility 😩 maddening

Trump’s negotiating style is to come in like the big bully making big threats to intimidate his opponent into accepting something they would have not otherwise accepted thinking they got out of having to accept the worse thing.
I do not think he is serious, but I guess it is possible is he is, he might want to expand the US as part of an ego stroking exercise of his like the kings and emperors of old did. But still I do not think this is possible. The America people would revolt, we’d see the biggest mass protests in US history, it would be complete mayhem. Trump would lose the support of a lot of his followers even. Right now they think it’s funny and he’s bluffing to get advantage in negotiations, but they did not sign up for invading Canada.
Plus I think our military would refuse orders to attack Canada. Attacking a NATO ally would be an unlawful order, our military has great fondness for our Canadian allies, we’ve fought alongside each other from WW1 up to the GWOT.

Canada will never join the US willingly, but a lot of US states would happily join Canada!
