Just an unbelievable cricketer. The key orchestrator of our home series streak of 12 years. The one who held our fortress against all odds. Bengaluru 2017, Chennai 2021… just off the top of my mind. I actually have tears. Maybe the 3-0 loss hurt him. 11 MoS awards. CWC11 winner, CT13 winner. The third greatest spinner of all time.
Farewell Ash. Would love to hear your voice in comms soon.

This is the first Indian retirement I’m truly heartbroken by.
I’m in my early 20s now. This guy’s resilience and love for the game is unparalleled. Done so much for the country, and so much for my childhood
He’s got 500 test wickets, and 6 test hundreds. Truly gifted player.
^(also the only player with 500+ wickets and more than 1 hundred)
Wouldn’t be wrong to call him a Legend. Lots of love. I will miss him greatly.
^([PS: He’s also done so much for the Tamil Nadu domestic scene. He’s so committed to the game and any team he’s part of])

GG ashi, probably had more to give, maybe not done right by the selectors but a Hall of Famer for sure.

Man, and to think of it, the man who was asked to “Get to Gabba”, never played at the Gabba but announced his retirement at Gabba😭

Selfless player. True legend on Indian cricket. Can’t wait to see him in the commentary box.

Probably not only one of the best spinners, but all-rounders India has ever produced. Great reader of the game as well.
Will never forget that leave against Nawaz in a high pressure game in 2022 T20I World Cup, goes on to show how well he reads the game.
All the best for your second innings and thanks for so many great memories!

Ashwin is 38, and what better time to retire than when people are asking, “Why did he retire?” instead of “Why hasn’t he retired yet?” He left the game with dignity and honor.
Home test’s will not be the same now.

Was looking fwd to him bowling at MCG/Sydney! One last time, Jaddu+Ash. Alas, not to be. He might’ve been key in the Melbourne test, specially. Now up to Washi in this series

He deserved a proper farewell and a last series to celebrate his greatness. This is not how it should have ended. As a cricket fan, it’s saddening.

I am absolutely gonna bawl my eyes out looking at his wicket compilations today. A strong pillar of India’s home dominance era. Gonna miss you Anna. Farewell and the home tests nearly won’t be the same without you.

We seriously got Ashwin retiring before Rohit and Kohli despite being better than them throughout.
(Understandablw, he wouldn’t have been in the XI for the next 7 maybe 8 tests)

The next home test will be hella weird without our Anna. Tears in my eyes as I write this. Farewell Anna
Hope to see you in and around the team in some capacity for a while.

Just when we were expecting some retirements to be announced from the Indian cricket team, we got this shocker instead
My man Ashwin had just one horrible series against NZ at home in all these years and that has made him take this decision finally I guess
I didn’t see this coming honestly. No hate on other seniors in our team, but if one series makes Ashwin tip his hat, some other seniors need to have some shame with their consistent mediocre performance in last few series
Anyways. Ashwin I will miss you so much. It is a sad day to see Ashwin Anna go down like this. He totally deserved a farewell home series. Absolute legend of the game. A true gem in the history of Indian red ball game

The man behind India’s home dominance from 2013. Will be missed a lot. Still remember the Nawaz wide in T20 WC. Takes sheer nerves to leave a ball rather than chase it. One of the most clinical players we’ve produced, who didn’t buckle under pressure. Even when the batting collapsed, you could tell Ashwin always put a price on his wicket, the Lord’s 2018 match stands out where he showed his grit in the face of collapse.

Equal most POTS in Test history with Murali. Amazing career, a true legend. Key part of a 12 year home dominance.
537 wickets. 24 average. 50.7 Strike Rate
3503 runs. 25 average, 6 centuries.
Absolute legend and great of the sport.
