Getting some real stupid Jimmy Carter/Ronald Reagan vibes and the Iran hostage crisis, where somehow Reagan got all the credit for what Carter’s office did, because the issue was magically resolved on January 20 the instant Reagan took office; this completely ignores that the Algiers Accords were signed one day prior, when Reagan was *not* in office.

It’s not unreasonable to suspect that the advent of Trump, who won’t restrain Netanyahu at all, gave Hamas additional incentive to make a deal while they still could. Trump could take credit for being the bad cop to Biden’s good cop — just by being the president-elect.
I strongly suspect that one reason Netanyahu has acted so aggressively in Gaza was to improve Trump’s chance of getting elected. He knew who’d give him a longer leash, or just throw the leash away..
(Yes, I know Biden probably could have restrained Netanyahu more. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t expect Trump to restrain him even less.)
