Gen X, wtf happened to you guys? How can you look up to this guy and other bands like Rage Against the Machine and then become a bunch of racists homophobic right wingers? You were fighting the patriarchy and then just turned into it

30 years ago it was 1995.
In 1995, “30 years ago” was 1965.

“Last year a girl was r*ped by two wastes of sperm and eggs while they sang the lyrics to our song “Polly.” I have a hard time carrying on knowing there are plankton like that in our audience. Sorry to be so anally P.C. but that’s how I feel.”
The rest of the story. This quote is printed in the liner notes of the b-sides album Incesticide alongside the one shown in this post.

I think we were warned to not idolize people like him when he was popular, but a message as simple as this seems hard to come by these days. A lot of people are worshipping the wrong idols now.

I was a young teen. This was wild. Young straight boys were shocked and didn’t know what to think. Was Nirvana gay? It was a a revolution for sure. Kurt could be nice to gay people. They had to understand it. It made more of an impact than people realize to the xennial among us, the young Gen X. It does hurt a bit to be old school now though. RIP Kurt.
