I find it hilarious, in a depressing manner, that people can be fined for being homeless. What will that achieve? They clearly can’t pay the fine and if you fine them enough you’ll likely throw them in a prison cell which, ironically, solves the homeless persons problem for a short spell anyway. Why not try to help them? Or are we still living in the age of fighting the poor instead of fighting poverty?

Nearly 1.2 million [children](https://endhomelessness.org/resource/nationwide-more-children-live-in-the-state-of-homelessness-than-in-most-american-states/) were either literally homeless (living in a shelter, or in unsheltered locations such as a car or tent) or doubled-up (sharing housing with friends or family beyond a unit’s designated capacity).

Hold up, that sounds like… a disease (drug addiction) and a disease (mental illness) and a symptom of that disease (violence; most people in jail for violent crimes come from traumatic childhoods and have at least one mental illness, sometimes several). My wife is a school counselor. I’ve learned about kids living in cars, hotels and 3 families sharing a one bedroom apartment. These are the families whose kids go to school and are trying. I wish modern billionaires had just a shred of empathy and decency. It is time to eat the rich.

I’m sure Mr. Musk has made a very detailed analysis of the homeless experience before concluding that mentally ill people without housing are undeserving of any assistance. What a gigantic heart this man has! How lucky we are having him influencing the administration.

At this point I’m getting surprised that Elon doesn’t appear to be fearing for his safety. Does he not read the news? Where does he think his unhinged greed act is going to get him?
I worked for a nonprofit that worked at housing the homeless.
Some statistics I learned while on the job I would like to share:
Majority of those who experience homelessness self resolve within a year. About 70%. They experience homelessness due to situations. Leading causes include: Job loss. Illness. Death of a partner who was primary income. Death of other loved ones. Natural disasters.
Over 75% of the chronically homeless (1 year or more, repeated incidents) have traumatic brain injuries.
Drug use is in the smallest minority of causes, or a side effect of other causes related to the cause of homelessness.
Other leading causes are mental health disorders, physical disabilities, and other illnesses.
