As a side, do we think that Pattinson or Bernthal is playing Antinous? I feel like either would be good, but a douchey suitor trying to get with someoneโs widow seems like a role that was born for Bernthal

So it looks like he is going for the traditional Greek setting rather than a modern interpretation. Even more excited for it now.

I really would’ve loved it if they’d gone for more of a Mycenaean look for the costuming rather than the typical Classical Greek look we’ve come to know.
Boar’s tusk helmets, goofy conical plate [armor]), axes, cow hide shields, etc. Something more Bronze Age, when the story was (presumably) set, rather than Classical Iron Age, when the story was composed.
At least the armor looks more bronze than iron.
EDIT: to be clear, the wishlist above was always unlikely. I’m mostly just happy we’re getting more Sword & Sandal movies. We’ve very little of those of any kind of quality for like 20 years. Seems to be changing a bit in a post Gladiator II market.

The shit of this is Ralph Fiennes played Odysseus in a movie called The Return and he looked the part WAY more.

This is petty of me, but I’m endlessly frustrated by these horribly inaccurate helmets for Greek soldiers. The only evidence that Greeks wore helmets like the one he’s wearing in the image would have been from Sparta circa the Persian wars, long time after the events of the Odyssey. However, every depiction of Greek helmets of this nature has the plumes going transverse across the head, not front to back as we see here.
But what really grinds my gears is that Homer literally describes Odysseus’ helmet in the Iliad. It’s right there in the god damn book that his helmet is a boar tusk helmet like this:

I guess Zendaya won’t have too big of a role because I can’t see how she would juggle filming for Euphoria (which is also filming right now) + Dune 3 and this one all at once…

Wrong type of helmet; the Iliad actually describes Odysseus helmet,
>Meriones gave to Odysseus a bow and a quiver and a sword, and Odysseus placed on his head a leather cap
made of hide. On the inside many leather straps were stretched tight, and on the outside white tusks from a white-tusked boar were arrayed one after another, well and skillfully. And in the middle there was a layer of felt fastened to it. โ Iliad 10.265

I’m so disappointed Nolan is following the tipical hollywood bs representation of the greek helmets during the bronze age. These corinthian helmets only appeared more than 500 years later.

From looking at this still, my first instinct is that Chris Nolan is still not improving his cinematography and this movie seems like the type that needs to have an epic wide-screen look and be lit like a timeless piece
Instead we are going to get an IMAX that is going to move like as if it’s a handheld camera and there isn’t going to be a single hard shadow to be found, aren’t we?
