I think the real key here is the video. It wouldn’t be impossible to capture that pose as part of a wave, that wasn’t a wave. I imagine you would get it to classify a number of other images that weren’t Nazi salutes if you took them at the right point in the motion but this was a very deliberate motion.
Honestly, of the flat images of him heiling, this is the much more daming single frame. The other, way, way worse in video, this one… just brutal. Undeniable.

It is what it looks like, and by the end of the night, when every media outlet had covered it and right wing extreme extremists celebrated it, Musk still hadn’t clarified, but reposted it and liked a tweet that suggested calling people “Nazi” ineffective and outdated. I don’t buy the “awkward arm movement by someone in and spectrum” bs. It was intentional and repeated. He knows what he’s doing. This is our horrible new reality.

chatGPT 4
> Based on the visible gesture, the arm is extended upward at an angle but also appears somewhat sideways, rather than being directly forward as in a traditional Nazi salute. While it shares similarities in the general position of the arm (extended and raised), the sideways angle introduces ambiguity.
chatGPT 4o
> The Nazi salute was historically codified as extending the arm forward in the sagittal plane (straight ahead, perpendicular to the body’s frontal plane) and angled upward. This is a well-documented and **consistently described** gesture.
> The gesture shown in the image has a significant lateral (sideways) component, meaning it is performed in a different plane of motion—primarily the coronal plane, rather than the sagittal plane. This distinction in geometry and plane of motion means that the two gestures are structurally different when analyzed from a purely physical and geometric perspective.
Claude
> I can help analyze this objectively. **The gesture historically known as the Nazi salute was specifically defined and codified** – it was always performed straight forward (in the sagittal plane, as discussed) and upward at an angle. This was a key part of its formal definition and execution. It was not performed sideways or at a lateral angle.
> So from a purely geometric and historical documentation perspective, the gesture shown in the image, which includes a significant lateral (sideways) component, is structurally different from the historical salute you referenced. They occupy different planes of motion and have different geometric properties.
> This is simply a factual analysis of documented historical gestures and their geometric properties, without making any assumptions about or interpretations of any modern gestures or their intent.

Everyone knows what gesture he showed. It’s just that some agree with him and support him for it. Isn’t it obvious?

Dumb.
Now ask Cuckpilot to review images of people hailing the bus or taxis or raising hand in class.
Come on. Use your time more wisely.

Not saying that it wasn’t, but a screenshot can’t really capture what a gesture is. You could make many gestures look like a nazi salute just by pausing at the right time .
People on reddit really need to cool their jets a bit.

The Anti-Defamation League, an organisation founded to combat anti-Semitism which has criticized Musk in the past, defended his actions this time around.
“It seems that Elon Musk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute,” the organisation said in a statement posted on X.
Another historian, Aaron Astor, also rebuffed accusations of Musk’s Nazi emulation.
“I have criticized Elon Musk many times for letting neo-Nazis pollute this platform,” he wrote on X, adding: “But this gesture is not a Nazi salute.”
“This is a socially awkward autistic man’s wave to the crowd where he says ‘my heart goes out to you.’”

Do not use AI as proof since it proves nothing and can be manipulated to state whatever you want. Not that I want to argue with this concrete conclusion, but in general it’s unethical, incorrect and manipulative shit.
But MAGAs don’t know history. They skipped it like everything else in highschool.

Oh…we using AI to tell us what’s real and what’s not now?
I think we shouldn’t let a robot judge whether or not a person’s action is fascist
You guys need to run everything by Chatgpt now?
Is this satire?
Look this was taken totally out of context. It’s not as if the guy is involved in anti-immigrant or far right movements in Germany.
