Victoria Soto, first-grade teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary School and died December 14 2012 in the school shooting there that murdered 20 children and six adults.

The US, where we ignore teachers and children being gunned down in schools every day, but one CEO (whose policies killed thousands) gets killed and it’s all the media can talk about.

Edit: didn’t realize this was Sandy Hook. I assumed it was a more recent shooting. My heart goes out to the US.

I’m not amazed. I amfking FURIOUS that this country cares more about guns than Victoria. She was underpaid, overworked, and SHE HAD FAMILY THAT LOVED AND NEEDED HER.

As a teacher, I’ve long grown used to and accepted the idea that I might willingly die for my students without giving it a second thought. But it sucks, because all of these teachers who have or will die don’t live in a vacuum. We have children, and spouses, parents and siblings. We matter too. And even though I’d die for my students and do anything so they didn’t have to die scared and alone, no one should ever have to end the world this way. God Bless all of those teachers who were brave enough to do what needed to be done, and may the parents of children who’ve died, know that they were loved and protected right until the very end. May that give you any measure of peace.

“Upvote this comment if you found the above post amazing in a positive way…”
This post is depressing. This poor woman was murdered, and had to hide children in order to protect them.
A “positive” post would be to focus on changing gun laws in order to prevent this tragedy from happening over and over again. How many children, teachers, staff, and other innocents have to die before things change?

On December 14, 2012, Soto was teaching her first-grade class at Sandy Hook Elementary School, when Adam Lanza made his way into the school, and began to shoot staff and students. After killing fourteen students and two teachers in the first classroom, Lanza entered Soto’s classroom. Media reports state that Soto had hidden several children in a closet, and when Lanza entered her classroom, Soto told him that the children were not there and that they were in the school gym. When several children ran from their hiding places, Lanza began shooting at the students. Soto was reportedly shot trying to shield them with her body. A photograph of Soto’s sister awaiting news of her sister on her cell phone was taken by Associated Press photographer Jessica Hill and widely reproduced across the globe. Some news outlets labeled the photograph “iconic” and said that it has come to symbolize the tragedy.

Ppl like this need to be remembered. Teachers are everyday heroes already and she went above and beyond, was quick to act and saved many lives. May she rest in peace.

Unfortunately they forget about the hero’s quick
And the shooters if it doesn’t fit into their narrative
Sad all around
They really need to put these schools on lockdown and change doors to the classrooms so they can’t get it ,it won’t stop everyone everytime but it’s gotta help
If we got billions and billions too send all over the world we can afford too tighten up ours schools too keep these kids safe

Brave, brave, woman. But the US will have many, many, more mass shootings until it has the courage to tackle the gun lobby.
I believe nothing changed after Sandy Hook in the US. What nation can justify this?
In contrast Scotland and Australia made a stand after their own, albeit rare, shooting tragedies.

We need more than “thoughts and prayers” from our elected representatives.
If they won’t make any levels of gun reform happen then vote them out.
How many more kids need to witness these school shootings?
How many parents need to worry if their kids are safe when they get on the bus to go to school?

she defined the humanity in its purest form, for the sacrifice and hope she left behind. people like her do not act for recognition, survival or reward, they act because it is right. and their actions shakes the fabric of the universe even if for a moment.
