I’ve done this before when I was trying to move a baby pigeon. We were moving and the apartment owners were just going to shove the baby off the balcony where its parents had put it. We got a basket, put the ‘nest’* in the basket, and zip-tied it to the cage covering the nearby air con unit.
*There were like… three sticks

Careful when doing this. You might be helping the birds but if you live in an area with snakes this will bring them in. You often run into snakes near your home where bird nests are.

Hope it’s not near a window. Lice came into our house via a window near a nest, after the occupants had vacated. Horrifying and a pain to delouse a bedroom.

This is awesome! Love the idea. I’m surprised the bird actually came back after you intervened and placed the basket up there.
Used to have a bird every year do something similar. Right outside our front door. It was fun to see the babies when they hatched.

Don’t do this near your house– if snakes are common in your area. They will introduce themselves.

In exchange for one plastic basket you receive the joy of knowing a little family might start there every spring. Solid trade.

We had a malamute (furry amazing dog) that of course shed constantly. We’d always brush her outside and it would look like snow on our back porch with all the hair. I got so much joy and amusement finding bird nests around my house and the neighborhood with her fur in them 😂😂 warmest softest nests ever.

It’s a cool idea and wholesome as fuck, but you really couldn’t be bothered to clip the excess on those zipties? Tragic.
