Yup. The PO actually delivers packages for UPS, Amazon, FedEx to rural areas for the last leg of their journey because it’s not profitable to actually go to the rural areas. Rural people are gonna need to get a box in the city and drive up there once a week. Leopards.

Man. Imagine if he finalized this in about 2.5 years, and then the McPost Office wasn’t able to account for the mail in ballots that Trump spent years encouraging his voters not to use.
Surely that won’t happen.
Separately, imagine if the mail suddenly started losing collections mail and then debtors who didn’t know they owed money were found in default and companies – maybe your utilities – started charging you high rates of interest and only letting you know via mail that gets lost.
Surely this won’t be weaponized by corporations.
A lot of these dummies get their meds through the mail.

The Postal Claus in the US Constitution explicitly designates the power to establish postal service as part of the duties of the Congress. The people who pay lip service about what they wish the Constitution say really just want a king and lack the basic common sense to understand it will hurt them.
The sad part is that this kind of thinking is directly discussed in the Bible (1 Samuel) where the people of Israel beg Samuel for a king, and the Lord explicitly expresses dismay that they should put their faith in Him. Then the Lord explicitly says, “Okay, but you are not going to like it.” The people who claim to love the Bible and the Constitution are the ones who have the greatest need to actually read the things they profess to follow.
And they will still vote republican. These folks voted republican even though trump destroyed the agriculture business with tariffs his first time in office

The Post Office is not supposed to be profitable. It’s a service.

It’s fine for government services to cost money, because that’s what taxes are for. Just make sure that the money isn’t wasted.
But it isn’t that simple! Consider that government waste makes everything cost 10% more money. Those dollars aren’t tossed into a shredder; they are used to pay salaries and buy stuff so the money wanders around the economy.
You make a dangerous mistake by ignoring that reality.
The government might spend less by privatizing, but the private companies have a “make money until I retire” incentive while government has a “keep the country prosperous forever” incentive.
I send out Vendor checks for 250+ small restaurants. That fee will be passed on to the consumers. Many of our restaunts are still struggling after Covid and this fee of what used to be a few $s max going to $15-30 per check. It’ll end a lot of businessess, but this theory that conservatives are better with money will still prevail even being proven wrong time and time again.
Oh man UPS and FedEx are going to be pissed like half their business depends on USPS actually delivering their packages the last mile.

My inlaws voted for Trump while living deep in rural Texas. I almost want to see this happen just to see the look on their faces. But as satisfying as that would be to see, I don’t really want to see it because the USPS is a vital service that shouldn’t be privatized.
So MeeMaw and PaPa, who don’t drive, get their low-cost drugs via mail from mail-order pharmacies. Sucks to be them, but they voted for exactly what’s happening.

Hey! Some of us Liberals live in rural areas! Our mail service isn’t great now, mostly because of carrier turnover. Twenty years ago there were no issues with the mail. Cost of living has gone up & seasonal jobs pay better.
Privatization would be a disaster!!

It’s super important to remember that rural whites will continue voting Republican in every election while they can’t even receive their social security checks anymore because of this. Republican voters will be grinding up the bodies of their dead to recycle them for food due to Republican austerity policies and they will continue to vote Republican. Conservatism is the oldest grift in U.S. history, it goes back to our literal founding. Southern states have **always** had worse living conditions, life expectancies, healthcare outcomes, working conditions, infrastructure, and everything else civilized nations value. They have **never** stopped voting conservative. The party switch was due to Democrats becoming less racist and Republicans becoming more racist. **That’s it**. That’s all conservatism has ever been. Be a racist running on a racist platform and I’ll literally feed you my children.

if it’s not profitable for the US government to run, especially since we have no desire for an actual *profit,* and only would “need” it to break even, how is it going to be profitable for a for-profit business?
And also: We may pay for our letters to be mailed, but it’s not a business any more than the military is, or Congress is. It’s mandated as a function of government by the Constitution.
The mail is explicitly called out in the Constitution.
