I watched it… and I cannot believe they did this in a live open press event. Why in the world did they not have some private meeting and then come out and brief the press? I don’t think it was a good look for the administration. It felt like scripted live TV and certainly nothing Presidential about it.
The US can’t keep fueling the fires of war through monetary aid or military arsenal. We’re not the world police. Either Russia is a credible nuclear, warmongering global threat or they’re not. If they are, then the world needs to stop dipping the toes in and out of the water and just jump in and address it.
He is ready for peace. But he needs a security guarantee be it weapons or European troops to believe that there will be peace otherwise Russia will just manufacture a cause and come back in 2 years. Russia has been very clear they consider Ukraine to be Russia.
The deal promises a ton of economic benefit for the U.S. but has no security guarantees.
Peace on paper is not peace when Russia is involved. There needs to be a physical guarantee of safety for Ukraine. If I was zelensky I wouldn’t accept anything less. If the US cannot provide that then the EU needs to wake up and provide it.

I am still not sure why Vance started popping off right off the bat. Why was he even there? VPs should be doing background tasks, not getting all hot and bothered like a Southern belle in front of the cameras. Real Lindsey Graham energy, my dude.
Because Zelenskyy is smart enough to know that peace without security guarantees is just a re-armament for Russia to reconsolidate and attack Ukraine again. If you want peace, you need serious security guarantees. What should probably be NATO— Russia should know—that another invasion in Ukraine will be unacceptable.

Everyone in here saying “he rejected it because there were no security guarantees” seem to have an expectation that a peace deal should involve Ukraine and America signing some sort of agreement that mirrors NATO, with America committing to an article 5 sort of obligation on behalf of Ukraine. (Such an agreement of course, would be even more lopsided than the current NATO agreement, since it would be a given that such an obligation would only go in one direction)
That is an even more unrealistic expectation than Ukraine getting admittance to NATO.
Either you bet on an unreliable Europe—struggling with its own soft invasion—to backfill U.S. support, proving they had the means all along while ripping off American taxpayers, and maybe drag out a bloody stalemate for a few more years.
Or…
Accept that you’re lucky to still have a seat at the table, let alone play with America’s chips, and offer whatever the U.S. wants plus 10%, with overwhelming gratitude for an end to a war that wasn’t a total collapse.
Ukraine has no cards. Its really not that complicated.
Zelensky has been spending too much time on Reddit, where people think he can just insist on peace and all his land back, and he’ll magically get it.
Negotiation means compromise. Both sides need to want to stop fighting, which means both sides need to see some upside

Real leaders seek peace, saving the lives of those who follow. Despots, tyrants, and degenerates seek death and destruction while filling their coffers. This is extremely troubling news, but the US must tow the line in this. We can’t continue to be the reason for mass death.
