I think the Jada drama messed with his reputation….growing up will smith was the man.
Ali? The Pursuit Of Happyness? Seven Pounds? I Am Legend? Fresh Prince Of Bel Air (especially the episode with his dad)?
I get he’s not really liked and respected anymore but that doesn’t change he has done great work in his 2nd career.
Overrated person maybe. But he is a skilled actor regardless of his personal misgivings.
I disagree. He was great in men in black, I am legend, fresh prince, bad boys, and more. His personal and professional reputation has taken a mega hit the past ten years. But hating on him on Reddit is very karma farming behavior

I Am Legend he did the action hero stuff well

He’s great in Six Degrees of Separation. Never saw Ali, but I notice it’s not mentioned much these days.
Well maybe now. His private life has definitely affected his impact in acting these days. But i’ve enjoyed a lot of movies which he starred in as a headliner.

He’s a great actor, I just think we’re all just tired of him, especially after the slap.
Slap aside, he has had some very great performances, but he mostly plays himself. King Richard was his greatest performance imo.

Six Degrees of Separation was amazing, pretending he was related to greatness really worked, perfect casting, he’s never bettered it.
I don’t think he is over or underrated. He’s always been a decent actor and has been lucky to star in decent roles. I understand the hate after the slappening but I don’t think this is a discussion without that event taking place.

Mark Wahlberg beat a vietnamese man to the point of blindness and it doesn’t get brought up as much as Will Smith slapping a dude.

He acted like a jackass in front of a lot of people.
That sucks. He may have irreparably injured his career by being that stupid, whatever his reasons.
But that doesn’t negate his acting talent or the roles he took on.
He is not very versatile but he can definitely act well in movies that are more mainstream. Not overrated at all, he carried alot of movies with his acting and charisma alone.
