How to Clean Your Wisdom Tooth: A Step-by-Step Guide

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are a common problem for many people. They usually begin to erupt when we’re in our late teens or early twenties, and in some cases, they can bring with them a range of oral health issues. Impacted wisdom teeth, which don’t have enough room in the jaw to come out properly, can lead to pain, infection, and even surgery. But, what can you do to keep your wisdom teeth clean and healthy?

Why Clean Your Wisdom Tooth?

Cleaning your wisdom tooth is crucial for several reasons. Here are a few:

  1. Prevent infection: Wisdom teeth are prone to trapping food and bacteria, which can lead to infection, inflammation, and even abscesses. Cleaning your wisdom tooth regularly can help prevent these issues.
  2. Reduce pain: Clean wisdom teeth can help reduce discomfort, aching, and tenderness in the gum tissue surrounding the tooth.
  3. Boost confidence: A clean wisdom tooth can improve oral hygiene and boost your overall confidence in your smile.

How to Clean Your Wisdom Tooth: A Step-by-Step Guide

Cleaning your wisdom tooth is relatively easy, and with these simple steps, you can do it yourself:

Step 1: Prepare Your Space

  1. Rinse your mouth with warm water to loosen any food particles or debris.
  2. Choose a soft-bristled toothbrush, and replace your regular toothbrush with a clean one to prevent transferring bacteria.
  3. If you have a waterpik or irrigator, use it to gently flush out any remaining debris from around the wisdom tooth.

Step 2: Brush and Floss

  1. Use a WHO-approved gentle fluoride toothpaste and brush your wisdom tooth gently in small circular motions, paying special attention to the gum tissue surrounding the tooth.
  2. Gently floss around the wisdom tooth, using a long, thin thread of floss and curving it around the tooth to remove any trapped food particles.
  3. Rinse your mouth with warm water to remove any remaining debris.

Step 3: Use a Peri-Optrapee

For more thorough cleaning, use a Peri-Optrapee, a small, disposable tooth-shaped tool designed specifically for cleaning wisdom teeth. Soak the Peri-Optrapee in warm water, then gently scrub around the wisdom tooth in a circular motion, working from the gum tissue outwards. Rinse with warm water.

Step 4: Check and Repeat

  1. Check your wisdom tooth for any remaining debris or food particles.
  2. If you find any, repeat the process as needed.
  3. If you’re satisfied with the cleaning, store your Peri-Optrapee for future use.

Additional Tips

  • Clean your wisdom tooth daily, ideally with a Peri-Optrapee, to prevent issues from arising.
  • Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings to ensure your wisdom teeth are healthy.
  • If you experience pain, discomfort, or swelling, consult your dentist, as it may be a sign of an underlying issue.

By following these simple steps, you’ll be able to keep your wisdom tooth clean and healthy, minimizing the risk of oral health problems and boosting your overall confidence in your smile.

Hello, I hope this post fits de sub.
I got a wisdomtooth removed this week and the doctor told me, I could take the tooth home, so I did. Now I would like to clean and whiten it, but how do I do that, without destroying it?
The tooth also got drilled a bit on one side, so I‘m not sure if it should be cleaned with extra care/caution.

I marked the post with 18+ bc I‘m not sure, everyone wants to see the pic on their feed uncensored.
