How Do I Cover This Reflective Hat Brim?
If you’re anything like many outdoor enthusiasts, you’ve probably found yourself struggling with the pesky problem of reflective hat brims. Those annoying reflective strips on the brim of your hat can be a real nuisance, especially when you’re trying to enjoy the great outdoors without being blinded by the sun’s glare. But fear not, dear reader! We’ve got you covered. In this article, we’ll explore some simple and effective ways to cover up that reflective hat brim and enjoy the sunshine without the glare.
Why Do Reflective Hat Brims Exist?
Before we dive into the solutions, let’s quickly address the reason behind the reflective hat brim in the first place. Many outdoor gear manufacturers include reflective strips on their hats to increase visibility and safety for cyclists, runners, and other athletes who hit the trails at dawn or dusk. The reflective material is designed to catch the light and make the wearer more visible to drivers and other pedestrians. While this is an important safety feature, it can also be a real pain when you’re trying to enjoy the sun without the glare.
Temporary Solutions
If you’re not ready to commit to a permanent solution, there are a few temporary ways to cover up that reflective hat brim:
- Bandana or Scarf: Wrap a bandana or scarf around the brim of your hat to block out the glare. This is a quick and easy fix that can be adjusted as needed.
- Sunshade: Use a sunshade or visor to block out the sun’s rays. These can be attached to your hat or worn separately.
- Tape: Apply a small piece of tape to the reflective strip to cover it up. This is a temporary solution that can be easily removed when you’re done with your outdoor adventure.
Permanent Solutions
If you’re looking for a more permanent solution, there are a few options to consider:
- Hat Liner: Consider purchasing a hat liner that has a built-in brim cover. These liners can be easily slipped onto your existing hat and provide a snug fit.
- Brim Cover: Look for a brim cover that is specifically designed for your type of hat. These covers can be attached using Velcro, elastic, or other adjustable fasteners.
- Hat Mod: If you’re feeling crafty, you can try modifying your hat by attaching a piece of fabric or felt to the brim to cover up the reflective strip.

Hello everybody, I'm trying to figure out an effective way of covering the exposed, reflective brim of this hat. I love the hat itself, the reflective strip, not so much.
I've considered using green duct tape but I can't imagine it'd look all that good. Maybe paint over it with something? I'm really not sure what to do.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you all!
