Your problem is “gentle” … pull on that thing. See the hinges

Pull hard on the handle. I have a full buffet that’s exactly the same. The wood contracts and expands with moisture and humidity.

If some good tugging does not work try adding some wood oil to lubricate the edges and oil the hinges.

I swear I grew up with that same buffet table. Just have to pull hard, it likes to get stuck

Ok, I used a thin, plastic putty knife to create a little more space between the door and the frame. Then, I gently pulled in the opposite direction and that popped it open.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Have you tried pressing in the opposite side of the hinges because it may be on a latch that releases that way.

You could try getting some dry lube or graphite into whichever sides/corners are rubbing, and gently apply pressure back and forth on the hinge to see if that frees it. I would also try a very thin tool like a feeler gauge slid along the perimeter to free any stuck areas. Maybe a combo of both

I always get fooled and its one of those magnetic click in and out lock style.

Suction cup.

Maybe try warming it up with a hair dryer, give it Fonz tap and try the handle

I would spray wood safe lube around the edge of the door and into the hinges, something like ballistol. You want something with force behind it (aerosol), so that it penetrates into the area between the door and the cabinet itself. Pledge may even work, but if avoid spraying pledge into the hinges, it will gum them up.

Suction? Like a plunger?

Check the back of the unit, you might be able to unscrew it and get it unstuck from inside

Have you tried pushing in around the top left corner or middle left edge?

The one I grew up with had a ball and spring latch with a metal piece with an indent for the strike.

IF the ball rusted it would not open until you break the rust lose. Pull harder or go in from the back

WD40?

Remove a drawer and see if you can access from there to push door out.

Or, remove hinges and then pull on handle.

Pry out the hinge pins or tap them out thru the bottom with an awl or something similar

Give it the ole 1, 2, 7!

We had one like that and there was a “secret” latch somewhere behind the other door
It was just a pull thingy that then opened that door

The wood is probably swollen. So use a skill saw on the opposite side of the hinges to go through and create a small gap and the door should open.

Get a 3M Command stick-on knob. That will let you pull the door open. Then you can remove the existing pull handle, measure the distance between screw holes and get a new handle.

[Edit] I thought your handle was missing the bail. It’s not.

Pull a little harder.

If you are ok with drilling a small hole in the back… Then use a rod and hammer to tap the door from the back.

Or if the back panel can be removed and reinstalled.

Use a toilet plunger on the surface – as far from the hinges as possible. You’ll get better leverage that way and the suction will break before you damage the wood

The handle. I can see it from here.

This reminds me Homer Simpson stuck drawer solution.

Push in until it pops out?

OP really just asked how to open a cabinet and took a picture of it that shows both the handle and hinges lol

Open sesame!!!

Pull hard

Ask Alexa to open will be my guess.

The Age-Old Question: How Do I Open This Buffet Cabinet?

Are you frustrated with a buffet cabinet that seems to have a mind of its own? You’re not alone. Many of us have encountered cabinets that seem to defy all logic and reason, leaving us wondering how to open them. In this article, we’ll provide some tips and tricks to help you overcome this common conundrum.

Before You Start

Before attempting to open the buffet cabinet, take a step back and assess the situation. Look for any visible latches, handles, or hinges that may be hidden from view. Check if the cabinet has a soft-close mechanism, which can sometimes be finicky.

Common Obstacles

There are a few common obstacles that can prevent a buffet cabinet from opening smoothly:

  1. Stuck or warped doors: Over time, doors can become stuck due to wear and tear, or warped due to changes in humidity or temperature.
  2. Misaligned hinges: If the hinges are not properly aligned, the doors may not open or close properly.
  3. Latch or lock issues: A faulty latch or lock can prevent the cabinet from opening.

Solutions

Here are some solutions to help you open your buffet cabinet:

  1. Check the hinges: If the doors are stuck or warped, try gently rocking them back and forth to loosen them. If the hinges are misaligned, you may need to adjust or replace them.
  2. Use a lubricant: Apply a lubricant, such as silicone spray or WD-40, to the hinges and latches to help them move smoothly.
  3. Apply gentle pressure: When opening the cabinet, apply gentle pressure to the doors to help them move smoothly. Avoid forcing the doors, as this can cause damage to the cabinet or the doors.
  4. Check the latch or lock: If the latch or lock is faulty, try cleaning or replacing it. If you’re still having trouble, consult the manufacturer’s instructions or contact a professional.
  5. Consider a soft-close repair kit: If your buffet cabinet has a soft-close mechanism, you may be able to repair or replace it with a soft-close repair kit.

Additional Tips

Here are a few additional tips to help you open your buffet cabinet:

  1. Use a cloth or towel: When opening the cabinet, use a cloth or towel to provide extra grip and prevent the doors from scratching or marking the surrounding surface.
  2. Work slowly and carefully: When opening the cabinet, work slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the doors or surrounding surfaces.
  3. Consult the manufacturer’s instructions: If you’re still having trouble opening the cabinet, consult the manufacturer’s instructions or contact a professional for assistance.

Conclusion

Opening a buffet cabinet can sometimes be a frustrating experience, but with the right techniques and a little patience, you should be able to overcome any obstacles and gain access to your storage space. By following the tips and solutions outlined in this article, you’ll be well on your way to enjoying your buffet cabinet’s full potential.
