Heat shrink tubing or electrical tape will give you a little longer, but you really should just get another charger if you can.

Dab some super glue on that sucker and wrap a bit of electrical tape on it if you’re desperate. Alternatively, there are these little tubes of heat-shrinking plastic you can get for pretty cheap that you can slip around it and hit with a blow dryer. You’re better off buying a new cord in the longer term, though.

Buy a new cord, you wouldn’t want a fire hazard down the road. I liked the suggestion for heat shrink, or there’s a 3D print design that makes clips for the end of cables that addresses this.

How to Save Your Charger: Tips to Extend Its Lifespan

Are you experiencing the frustration of a charger that’s on its last legs? You’re not alone. Many of us have been there, scrambling to find a replacement charger when our trusty one finally gives up the ghost. But before you toss your charger in the trash, there are ways to save it and extend its lifespan. In this article, we’ll explore the reasons why chargers die and provide you with practical tips on how to revive your charger and keep it working for years to come.

Why Do Chargers Die?

Chargers can die due to a variety of reasons, including:

  1. Wear and tear: Regular use can cause the charger’s internal components to wear out over time.
  2. Overheating: Chargers can overheat when used in high temperatures or when the cord is damaged, causing the insulation to melt and the wires to short circuit.
  3. Power surges: Sudden spikes in power can damage the charger’s internal components.
  4. Poor maintenance: Failure to clean the charger regularly can cause dust and debris to accumulate, reducing its efficiency and lifespan.
  5. Age: Chargers, like any electronic device, have a limited lifespan and can eventually wear out due to natural aging.

How to Save Your Charger

Don’t throw away your charger just yet! With a little TLC, you can breathe new life into it and extend its lifespan. Here are some tips to help you save your charger:

  1. Clean it regularly: Use a soft cloth and a gentle cleaning solution to wipe down the charger’s exterior and remove any dust or debris.
  2. Check for damage: Inspect the charger’s cord and plug for any signs of damage, such as fraying, cuts, or burns. If you find any damage, replace the cord or plug immediately.
  3. Avoid overheating: Keep your charger away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and high-traffic areas to prevent overheating.
  4. Unplug it when not in use: Unplugging your charger when not in use can help prevent damage from power surges and reduce wear and tear on the internal components.
  5. Store it properly: When not in use, store your charger in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  6. Use a surge protector: Consider investing in a surge protector to protect your charger from power surges and spikes.
  7. Update your charger: If your charger is old or outdated, consider upgrading to a newer model with improved safety features and efficiency.
  8. Avoid overcharging: Avoid overcharging your device, as this can put additional strain on the charger and reduce its lifespan.

Conclusion

Saving your charger is easier than you think! By following these simple tips, you can extend the lifespan of your charger and keep it working efficiently for years to come. Remember to clean your charger regularly, check for damage, avoid overheating, and store it properly when not in use. With a little care and attention, your charger will continue to serve you well and keep your devices charged and ready to go.
