Get enzymatic cleaner specifically for cat urine at your pet store. Soak the lid with it. Dab off the excess with a clean cotton rag. Repeat a few times. Let the lid dry completely. See if the smell it gone. It not, repeat.

After that you may have to treat it with a cat repellent.

Try wiping it down with a mix of water and vinegar to neutralize the smell, then let it dry completely in a well-ventilated area. Just be careful not to soak it too much to avoid mold.

The joys of pet ownership! While our furry friends bring immense joy and companionship to our lives, they can also leave behind some, ahem, "unpleasant" surprises. If your cat has seen fit to pee on the bamboo lid of your laundry hamper, don’t worry – it’s not the end of the world! With the right cleaning techniques and products, you can restore your bamboo lid to its former glory.

Before You Start:

Before you begin cleaning, it’s essential to act quickly to prevent any stains from setting in. If you catch the urine immediately, you’ll have a better chance of removing the stain and odor completely.

Step 1: Blot the Stain

Use paper towels or a clean cloth to blot the stain, focusing on soaking up as much of the urine as possible. Don’t rub the stain, as this can push it deeper into the bamboo and make it harder to remove.

Step 2: Mix a Cleaning Solution

In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and 1 tablespoon of mild dish soap. Stir the solution until the soap is fully dissolved.

Step 3: Apply the Cleaning Solution

Dip a clean cloth into the cleaning solution, wring it out thoroughly, and apply it to the stained area. Make sure to saturate the area evenly, but avoid over-saturating the bamboo.

Step 4: Let it Sit

Allow the cleaning solution to sit on the stain for about 10-15 minutes. This will give the solution time to penetrate the bamboo and help break down the uric acid crystals in the cat’s urine.

Step 5: Rinse and Wipe

Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe away the cleaning solution and stain. If some of the stain remains, you can repeat the cleaning process as needed.

Step 6: Dry the Lid

Use a clean towel to dry the bamboo lid thoroughly. You can also use a fan or a hair dryer on a low setting to speed up the drying process.

Removing Odors:

To eliminate any lingering odors, you can try the following:

  • Sprinkle baking soda liberally over the affected area and let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour before wiping it away with a damp cloth.
  • Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle and spray the area. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes before wiping it away with a clean cloth.
  • Place a small bowl of white vinegar near the affected area to absorb any remaining odors.

Tips and Precautions:

  • Always test a small, inconspicuous area of the bamboo lid before applying any cleaning solutions to ensure they won’t damage the material.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the bamboo or leave residue behind.
  • If the stain is particularly stubborn or large, you may need to repeat the cleaning process several times before it’s completely removed.
  • To prevent future accidents, consider placing a layer of absorbent material, such as a towel or a cat litter mat, under the laundry hamper to catch any stray accidents.

By following these steps and tips, you should be able to remove the cat’s urine stain and odor from your bamboo laundry hamper lid. Remember to act quickly, be patient, and don’t be afraid to repeat the cleaning process as needed. Happy cleaning!

A really stupid and niche question but my cat peed on the lid of this bamboo laundry basket (lid was on the floor) so it soaked through. I wanna clean it but I'm afraid of it molding if it gets wet and it'd already soaked into the bamboo. If I can't clean it it's not the end of the world but I'd love to find some answers
