You’ll likely need to destroy it. The sheet metal and central pin all look pressed together. Maybe you can save it, but it will involve bending things.

I found better image.

Looks like the rectangle tabs at the bottom hold the number strips in place. You might be able to stretch the bar off the sides and get the rest apart.

Thanks for your replies!

I managed to do it. One of the sides of the bar has a slit to hold in place. So I had to push it up and inside. The. It was easy to remove the bar and everything disassembled fast. It was more tricky to assemble it, but since I had to do it three times I think I got it.

I hope it helps anyone else trying to do the same! Cheers!

How to Disassemble a Stamp: A Step-by-Step Guide

Stamp collecting, also known as philately, is a popular hobby that involves collecting and studying postage stamps. Over time, stamps can become worn out, damaged, or even stuck together, making it difficult to handle and store them. In such cases, disassembling a stamp can be a necessary step to restore its original condition. In this article, we will provide a step-by-step guide on how to disassemble a stamp.

Why Disassemble a Stamp?

Before we dive into the process, it’s essential to understand why disassembling a stamp might be necessary. Here are a few reasons:

  1. Separating stuck stamps: Stamps can become stuck together due to moisture, adhesive, or other factors. Disassembling them can help separate them and make them easier to handle.
  2. Removing creases and folds: Creases and folds can be a nuisance when handling stamps. Disassembling them can help flatten and remove these imperfections.
  3. Restoring condition: Disassembling a stamp can help restore its original condition, making it more valuable and desirable to collectors.

Tools and Materials Needed

Before you start disassembling your stamp, make sure you have the following tools and materials:

  1. Stamp hinges: These are small, adhesive strips specifically designed for attaching stamps to albums or pages.
  2. Stamp tweezers: These are specialized tweezers designed for handling small, delicate objects like stamps.
  3. Stamp press: A stamp press is a small, handheld tool used to flatten and smooth out stamps.
  4. Tissue paper: This is used to wrap and protect the stamp during the disassembling process.
  5. A clean, flat surface: You’ll need a clean, flat surface to work on.

Step-by-Step Guide to Disassembling a Stamp

Now that you have the necessary tools and materials, let’s proceed with the disassembling process:

  1. Prepare the stamp: Carefully remove the stamp from its album or page, taking note of any creases or folds. Wrap the stamp in tissue paper to prevent damage.
  2. Identify the adhesive: Check the stamp for any adhesive residue or gum. If it’s stuck to a piece of paper, gently lift the edge of the paper to expose the adhesive.
  3. Apply a hinge: Place a small piece of stamp hinge on the back of the stamp, near the adhesive. This will help lift the stamp off the paper.
  4. Lift the stamp: Using your stamp tweezers, carefully lift the stamp off the paper, starting from the edge where you applied the hinge. Gently rock the stamp back and forth to loosen it from the paper.
  5. Remove the adhesive: Once the stamp is lifted, use your stamp tweezers to carefully remove the adhesive residue from the paper. You can also use a small, blunt tool like a credit card to scrape off the adhesive.
  6. Flatten the stamp: Use your stamp press to flatten the stamp, working from the center outwards. This will help remove any creases or folds.
  7. Re-hinge the stamp: If necessary, re-hinge the stamp to a new piece of paper or an album page.

Tips and Precautions

When disassembling a stamp, it’s essential to be gentle and careful to avoid damaging the stamp or its paper backing. Here are a few tips and precautions to keep in mind:

  1. Handle with care: Stamps are delicate and can be easily damaged. Handle them with care and avoid touching the adhesive or gum.
  2. Use the right tools: Use specialized tools like stamp tweezers and a stamp press to avoid damaging the stamp.
  3. Work slowly and patiently: Disassembling a stamp can be a time-consuming process. Work slowly and patiently to avoid making mistakes.
  4. Avoid using solvents: Never use solvents or chemicals to remove adhesive residue, as they can damage the stamp or its paper backing.

Conclusion

Disassembling a stamp can be a necessary step in restoring its original condition and making it easier to handle and store. By following the step-by-step guide outlined in this article, you can safely and effectively disassemble your stamp. Remember to handle the stamp with care, use the right tools, and work slowly and patiently to avoid making mistakes. Happy stamp collecting!
