How to remove stains from rubber mask
Just a guess but it looks to me like the base rubber is black underneath and the pink “paint” has worn off somewhat.
If true, trying to clean the black off is only going to make it worse.
What in role-playing hell…
This rubber mask (from a dental training mannequin) got some grime on it from the floor of a basement. Try as I might I cannot remove the black staining.
Things that have not had any effect:
-rubbing alcohol
-Baking soda
-vinegar
-soaked in soapy water for several hours
-scrubbed with toothbrush alongside all of these
I’m going to try one of those magic eraser things if I can get my hands on one. Anybody else have other suggestions for cleaning it? Very much appreciated!
I’d try a Clorox wipe. Maybe isopropyl if that didn’t work.
Did you try acetone?
So to me, it looks like it’s stained. It’s not just surface anymore. If so, I’d say it’s probably part of the material now. If so, you’d need to bleach it, however you bleach rubber, and redye it. This mask doesn’t look expensive, so it’s probably not worth it unless there’s something sentimental about it, or if you plan to do it repeatedly to make it seem new through the years. I never done this, personally. Just watched the dying videos for rubber.
Try a baking soda paste (water and baking soda). I’ve used it to clean rubber ear tips (was a LARPer) and found that worked best. Rub and scrub it into the rubber.
