Hire someone else.

Flood the house until you float high enough to reach it.

I think three folding chairs and a thick book will do it

You need that folding aluminum ladders

Jump.

Little Giant ladder, or a competitors product. You can change the length of each side. So put the long side of the ladder on a step and shorten the other side until its level on a higher step or the floor. Have someone hold the ladder still. Make sure the ladder is as high as it can go but staying level to give you something to grab.

Can you access it through the ceiling crawlspace?

You need at least 2 or 3 people. They never made those accessible. Ive seen a couple of houses like that with even taller ones. Like 20 ft tall. Had to install 3 of them. The home owner also wanted a big and heavy ass chandelier that needed a 15ft ladder and another 3 people to finish that

can you get to it from inside the roof cavity?

Safest way I can think of: Of course you turn off the breaker to that light first. Mark the breaker box if it isn’t already, indicating where the circuit is. Like “stairway light”. Looks like an attic access panel at top of stairs. The light was probably installed from attic, so carefully crawl in there. Don’t step on drywall, but on rafters. Double check that circuit is off in attic. Then disconnect or cut electric wires and detach fixture. Attach long string to fixture and lower to stairs. Then reverse this to install new fixture.

An extension ladder from the stair to wall.. A second person also helps ( to either get tools , laugh , or take pictures after dialling 9-11

That looks like a job for your friendly neighborhood spiderman!

Unless you have no money at all – Hire a handyman. They have transformer ladders, ladder jacks, step levelers, mini scaffolding, aluminum planking with stabilizer pins…. Etc

Source: I’ve been in the lighting system design & install industry for 39+ years. We have an $1850 minimum service charge fee, so don’t look for “chandelier specialists”. A NextDoor “handyman” will charge you about $100. A fully insured legit licensed electrician: $350.

It’s real easy to break your neck trying to redneck engineer a solution.

Tip: Use LED bulbs for your next fixture. They’ll outlive you. No need to change them.

Go go gadget

Scaffolding. You should be able to rent it from several places in your area

How to Safely Change a Fixture: A Step-by-Step Guide

Changing a light fixture may seem like a simple task, but it can be a daunting process if not done correctly. Improperly changing a fixture can lead to accidents, injuries, and even electrical hazards. In this article, we will provide a step-by-step guide on how to safely change a light fixture.

Preparation is Key

Before you start, it’s essential to prepare yourself and the area where the fixture is located. Follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the power: Make sure to turn off the power to the circuit at the main electrical panel. Verify that the light fixture is completely off before proceeding.
  2. Lock the room: Lock the room to ensure that no one enters or disturbs you while you’re working.
  3. Gather necessary materials: Collect a replacement light fixture, a ladder (if necessary), and any other materials specified in the manufacturer’s instructions.
  4. Inspect the area: Before starting, inspect the area around the light fixture for any obstacles or hazards, such as cobwebs or damaged wiring.

Removing the Old Fixture

Once you’re ready, it’s time to remove the old fixture. Follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect the electrical connections: Remove any connections to the light fixture, such as the wires leading to the bulb or ceiling.
  2. Loosen any securing screws or clips: Release any screws, clips, or latches holding the fixture in place.
  3. Gently lift the fixture: Carefully lift the fixture off the ceiling or wall. Be careful not to touch any electrical contacts or wires.

Inspecting the Wiring

Now that the fixture is removed, inspect the wiring:

  1. Check for damaged wiring: Look for any signs of damage, such as cuts, tears, or wear. Replace any damaged wiring to prevent electrical shock or fires.
  2. Verify electrical connections: Make sure the connections to the light fixture are secure and not touching any electrical contacts or wires.

Installing the New Fixture

Now it’s time to install the new fixture. Follow these steps:

  1. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions: Carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation, if provided.
  2. Secure the fixture: Hold the fixture in place using screws, clips, or latches. Make sure it is firmly secured and won’t fall or loosen over time.
  3. Connect electrical connections: Reconnect the electrical connections to the new fixture. Make sure they are securely attached and not touching any electrical contacts or wires.
  4. Replace the bulb (if necessary): Replace the bulb in the new fixture, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Final Checks

Once the new fixture is installed, perform these final checks:

  1. Check the power: Turn on the power at the main electrical panel. Verify that the light fixture is now working correctly.
  2. Test the fixture: Test the light fixture by turning it on and off several times to ensure it’s working safely and securely.

Additional Tips and Reminders

  • Always follow manufacturer’s instructions: Consult the manufacturer’s instructions for specific guidance on changing the light fixture, as well as any warranties or liability concerns.
  • Don’t rush the process: Changing a light fixture is a process that requires patience and attention to detail.
  • If unsure, hire a professional: If you’re unsure or uncomfortable with any aspect of the process, it’s recommended to hire a licensed electrician to assist you.

By following these steps and tips, you can safely change a light fixture and avoid potential accidents or electrical hazards.

The fixture its self is pretty straightforward. It's a hardwired LED fixture. To replace to would need to disconnect the positive negative and ground with twist connectors. Only problem is location. In the middle of a staircase about 15 feet from the closest step. How do I change this without needing a wheelchair after?
