This is absolutely a premeditated stunt to win over young people. They’re already giving him credit as the saviour in the notice. Why the fuck else would a foreign multi-billion dollar company include that?
And remember, it was Donald Trump’s executive order banning TikTok August of 2020 that started all this.
My best guess is that the only way he would unban TikTok is if they bend the knee and promote whatever propaganda he tells them to. Or sell it off/create a US version for Elon or Zuckerberg to do the same they did to Twitter and facebook/Instagram. There is zero chance he unbans it without gaining something in return
I said the same thing, and recently learned that it’s a common sentiment.
Does anyone else have this overwhelmingly eerie feeling about how social media platforms are sliding to the far-right? Musk owns Twitter. Zuck is kissing Trump’s ring. And now TikTok is preemptively crediting Trump for saving the platform despite Trump being the one that initially proposed banning it.
We already have adults in this world that quite literally do not know any other brand of conservative politics aside from Trump’s because they were literally 8, 9, and 10 when he ran his first successful campaign in 2016. His brand of politics has already been normalized for these people. Younger folks aren’t nearly as uncomfortable with Trump as they should be. But now social media is on his side, ready to shape the minds of the even younger generation that *really* wont remember a time when Trump wasn’t in mainstream politics. This is a terrifying thought.
So he started the ball rolling on the ban and now orange Jesus will step in and save the day🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Seriously, fuck this country.

Biden came out and said his administration won’t enforce the ban, because it’s so close to Trump taking office. So TikTok is choosing to go dark for a brief period, so Trump can come in and pretend he saved them, even though he (and other republicans) are the ones who got the bill to ban TikTok started in the first place.

As young people who used tiktok start flocking to other sites now we should try to be welcoming here. Reddit isn’t perfect but at least it’s not kissing the tiny ringed fingers of Trump like Meta.
I never used tiktok but this feels dystopian almost and a lot of people are freaking out. It feels like they’re cutting off the fastest way to communicate with large groups of people.
So Trump is playing superhero when all of his cronies are the ones creating the problem? Yeah, this is what happens if you elect Syndrome from The Incredibles as president.

My feeling is that Trump is gonna get a big ol ‘donation’ from the CEO of TikTok to get it unbanned, and then he’s gonna get another even bigger ‘donation’ from his best pal Elon Muskrat to keep it banned so X can reign supreme in American media.
As this great parody of ‘this land is your land’ once said: “Follow the money, and let the poor bleed!”
TikTok won’t be saved, the influencers will lose their jobs. If he saves TikTok that means he knows he still needs votes to keep his people in power, I guarantee on Monday he’s gonna have his ‘Wheatley taking everything over in Portal 2’ moment and fully renege on everything he’s not that fond of or isn’t being paid enough for or against.

He most likely cut a deal with the TikTok owners for a cash payment and monthly use residuals. He wanted to be POTUS to profit, not to govern.
