Yeah, why can’t they just tax the money when it comes off the production line, then they wouldn’t need to employ tax collectors.

Be angry that your tax money is funding tax cuts and bail outs for billionaires, war profiteeeing in foreign conflicts, and missing audit funds that accidentally dropped into the accounts of wealthy politicians.
Don’t be angry that you’re building a better world. Be angry that the better world is only for the rich.

Yes, there is more than one tax. You may also use taxed money to pay taxes each year on land that you paid taxes on when you bought it. The taxes go to different places for different things.

Americans crying over their often sub 10% sales tax. Cries in 25% sales tax after the 37% income tax AFTER the employee already paid their part of my income tax (total of around 50% income tax)…

As a non-American, you undoubtedly get fucked over on tax, but I always found it baffling that your products have a price and then separate tax on top.
Actual product prices you get are cheaper but since it’s rarely (I think?) without the tax, it just seems like the same type of cheap marketing scam as making something 10.99 instead of 11.00

Funnily enough sales tax is NOT a tax on the consumer, it’s a tax that the business has to pay when they make a sale. However, it’s now culturally acceptable that businesses pass that tax onto the customer and make it seem like the customer is being taxed

We should not have a sales tax. It’s a terrible, regressive way to tax people. Even if you are cold, hard capitalist that hates the poor you should still hate it because it discourages behavior that you want (i.e., people spending money on shit.)
The only reason we have them is because it’s often easier to enforce (though not always, see e.g. cigarette smuggling) and it’s only ever a little bit at once so people don’t realize how much they are paying, unlike better taxation methods like income tax where the amount you pay the entire year gets shoved in your face.

So the store you bought it from pays a property tax, all those employees are getting their wages taxed, the item had to bought and shipped from somewhere (all taxed), the thing had to be produced and the materials paid for were taxed, the person producing the good was taxed, the place the item was produced at was taxed, the truck driver delivering the goods was taxed, you probably drove a car there to buy it (also taxed), using gasoline that was taxed.
Its taxes all the way down.

Wait until you find out about the extra money the store is charging because of all the taxes they are paying that you now get to pay. In Canada everything gets carbon taxed a few times over and above the regular taxes.

If I get a cash tip, the person already paid tax on it. I report it and pay tax on it again. (Sure I do!) I go buy a sandwich and tip the counter person. She pays tax on it, and then pays tax on what she bought. Somebody here said we don’t pay enough tax. SMH
