When your prescription is strong enough those are ultra thin.

Holy fuck and I thought I was blind at -3.75 with astigmatism. You probably look like Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys with those bitches on.
You should get some Toric XR contacts. I just got fitted for some and I’m waiting for them to arrive. I find that having glasses with that strong of a prescription makes my eyes look slightly larger through the lens. Either contacts or get chunky plastic frames so less of the polycarbonate lens is sticking out and poking your cheek.

Optical technician here but not your optical technician hehehe. Ask them if they have used an aspheric lens. Refractive index is half the story when it comes to thinning. An aspheric lens should be used in a hi index lens like this to make the profile flatter and thinner. If the frame is quite large and the pupil distance (PD) small it would exponentially increase thickness to the edge. Do you know what index this is? It looks like it’s a 1.6 spheric if you are approximately a -6.00 or even 1.59 polycarbonate. I know Americans have polycarb as standard but a lot of countries use 1.5 CR39 plastic. At a -6.00 a 1.67 or 1.74 index aspheric would be what I’d be ordering, ideally with a plastic frame to hide the edge thickness. Either they’ve done something wrong or your options were not correctly discussed. Return to the shop, it’s not an acceptable product

Licensed Optician here. IMO it looks like you were given bad advice in frame selection. A -6.00 is not a mild extra by any means, but in a wire frame like this you’re bound to see all of the lenses edges. I would always recommend a thicker plastic frame to hide as much thickness as possible. Whoever cut the job didn’t do you any favors by putting the bevel where they did either.
Impossible to tell from the pic but my guess is that this frame PD (measured from lens edge to far nose pad) is way larger than your PD (measured as the distance btwn your pupils).
There’s also a chance they did not use the highest index possible (1.74).
If you’re not happy (I wouldn’t be) then they need to know about it. It’s not confrontational it’s customer service.

No way are those ultra thin, I think you got screwed.
One thing to do is order the smallest frames possible – the larger the frame the bigger the lens will be. Add the high index and poly carbonate and it should help.

You got ripped off. I was a -8.5 before laser surgery. I would get Zeiss glass lenses (not plastic) with a index of refraction of 1.9. They were way thinner than those.

Optician here!
1. I would have cautioned you against a metal frame because it hides less of the lens.
2. I’d be interested to see the RX itself because if you have astigmatism it can shift where the thickness is.
3. I don’t know what your PD versus the frame measurements look like but high minus + narrow PD + Wide frame is absolutely begging for trouble.
All of that being said, they should have insisted on at least 1.67 lenses here if not 1.74. Those look like poly lenses and I’d only do that in that RX if the patient demanded it and I told them how bad they were gonna look.
I also would have probably sent those back to the lab and asked for a lesser lens thickness because for a -6 that’s pretty extreme.

Optician here ~ There’s no possibility that those lenses were made with high index lens material. You probably paid extra for the high index, you should definitely take them back. Ask to have the lenses remade with high index 1.74 with anti-reflective.

Looks like my old glasses. I’ve gotten lasik since then, but my worst rx was -5.75 right and -4.75 left. Plus a stigmatism, different ones, in each eye.
While my Lasik had its flaws (night vision is a bit worse overall), Lasik is still the best thing I ever did for my vision.
