The right image looks a tad “cleaned up” which isnt the art direction of shrek. However its a minor gripe
It looks like an AI generated Shrek. It’s way too smooth and shiny
All they did is refine his design, it’s not like they made him suddenly skinny and completely switched his personality
He went from “daddy” to “I’m scared, daddy”

Something about the eyes doesn’t sit right but I can’t grasp what
Poor lighting of the scene tbh but his head do look kind of more oval shaped but it can be just the head tilt of OG messing the perception.
Have you heard of the uncanny valley effect, Ik it’s different since the “new” shrek looks nothing like human, but they’ve made him look uncomfortably realistic.

Honestly, sherek himself is the least bad of them all. He can be fixed by fixing the textures. He’s too shiny

I hate it when they redesign characters for no reason.
However I can’t see how this would be it. They just made him look older, right? I think he looks just the same but a bit older and a bit more detailed, that’s it. That’s not a redesign, it’s just improving the design and following real life logic of the passing of time and what it does to people.
Thank god, I’m not the only one.
They look pretty much the same to me.
Now I’m sure there’s plenty of things the movie can do to stomp all over the originals like we are used to from unwanted sequels, but I can’t say that Shrek’s basic design is one of them.
His shade of green is subtly different.
